Under minimal supervision, the Complex Epilepsy Nurse Manager (
CENM) will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all aspects pertaining to optimizing the patient experience across the spectrum of complex and surgical epilepsy care.
This includes all components related to clinical workflow, patient relations and education, research recruitment and execution, programmatic outreach and expansion functions of the Pediatric Complex Epilepsy Program (
PCEP), as administered collaboratively through the Departments of Pediatrics (Division of Pediatric Neurology), Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery, and Brain and Spine Center (Primary Children's Hospital).
CENM
are four-fold and targeted to ensure the best possible patient experience within the
PCEP
Responsibilities include:
oversight and management of in- and out-patient workflow processes (with focus on inpatient environment and invasive/noninvasive
EEG
application); facilitation of the clinical and research goals within the
PCEP, including (but not limited to) enrollment into and execution within the Personalized Medicine Program; oversight of the specialty clinical services (ketogenic diet,
RNS / VNS , epilepsy surgery clinic); and oversight and facilitation of the Epilepsy Surgery program. Responsibilities will invariably require skill in the domains of customer service, clinical staff management, and financial operations/management.
The
CENM
goals, in addition to the processes described above, will include: optimizing
EEG
utilization; refining specialty clinics ( ESC ,
VNS / RNS ,
SUDEP ); liaising with institutional representatives (e.g.
NTU
Nurse Manager, Director of Surgical Services, Outpatient Clinic Manager, etc.) on behalf of the
PCEP; elevating nursing education standards; initiating and executing quality improvement projects; enhancing community outreach and public relations; development of a successful philanthropy program; and mentorship of junior clinical staff.

will be expected to pursue lifelong learning career opportunities, particularly an administrative leadership course within two years of starting in this position.

will function as an equal partner within leadership of the
PCEP, working closely with both the Medical and Surgical Directors (Doctors Sweney and Bollo), and will report directly to

Brain and Spine Center Leadership, specifically Medical Director (Josh Bonkowsky, MD/PhD), Surgical Director (Rob Bollo, MD), and
PCH
Brain and Spine Program Director (Seth Andrews,
MBA ).

Interface with pharma and device companies for recruiting into clinical trials.
Education and Community Outreach:
Develop curricula to be applied at all levels of nursing (inpatient, outpatient clinics, community/school)
Manage and regularly update the Epilepsy websites of the Department of Pediatrics and of the Brain and Spine Center.
Provide educational symposia to the community, specific to epilepsy care
Performs other related duties as needed.
Programmatic Development:
Lead in expanding the service footprint and enhancing care delivery within
PEP. This will require proactive communication and engagement to augment the profile of the
PEP
locally, regionally, and nationally
Create a sense of community and shared direction amongst a disparate and diverse program team.
Ability to build credibility, trust, and rapport with stakeholders at all levels, internal and external to the organization, will be critical.
Ensure that costs incurred are monitored against budget.Communicate regularly and effectively with all stakeholders, within the team, within the organization and community (including philanthropic entities), and beyond.
Manage and resolve conflict generated by competing interests within thePEP.
Be responsible for program quality and embed quality processes into the program from the outset.
Report overall program status to the steering group at regular intervals and on an ad-hoc basis.

Minimum QualificationsA Utah RN license is required for this position.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) and four years of progressively more responsible management experience.
Background knowledge of assigned department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.
Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.
Preferences Master's degree in a related area may be preferred. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
