    Student Access Office

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Monitor the provision of a wide range of services to a large caseload of students with a variety of disabilities pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and ADA. Serves as a valued resource to staff and faculty, advises on best practices for working with students with disabilities, works collaboratively with individuals across the university to address the learning needs of students, and to fulfill the mission of the Student Access Office and the university.

    SALARY INFORMATION:

    In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70, ,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    REPORTS TO: Director of Student Access Office

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    Direct supervision of Accommodations and Services Coordinator and Technology/Section 508 Compliance Specialist.
    Supervise the implementation of accommodations for all Adelphi satellite campuses.
    Manager and oversee the department student database system.
    Facilitate staff meetings and trainings.
    Assist the Director in providing campus-wide and community outreach, disability education training, and consultation services to the University administration, faculty and community regarding issues, trends, and innovative opportunities to meet campus and accommodation needs.
    Assist the Director in the development of comprehensive ADA and disability training sessions for academic departments, faculty, and staff, while also delivering HR-approved courses for the Diversity Certificate program.
    Participate in University-wide DEI initiatives and strategic goals and assessments in support of Momentum.
    Conduct intake interviews; communicate to students the student disability accommodation process and resources on campus; and refers students for other appropriate services.
    Review and determine appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), the Fair Housing Act, prevailing university policy, and other federal laws pertaining to disability access.
    Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regarding student issues while also maintaining case files and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and prevailing University policy.
    In coordination with the Director, design, develop, and implement a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of students with disabilities within the framework of federal regulations, current and accepted learning theories, and available financial resources.
    Maintain confidential database records of documented, on-file students with disabilities.
    Assist the Director in the development and implementation of departmental policies and processes.
    Assist the Director in the development and implementation of assessment initiatives, ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution.
    Support recruitment efforts by presenting workshops at college fairs, and conferences for high school administrators working with students who have disabilities.
    Articulate University, State, and Federal policies and regulations to students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
    Assist the Director in developing and managing department communication materials, including, but not limited to, flyers, brochures, forms, policies, and informational guides, manuals, and handbooks.
    Serve as a liaison with external disability related organizations and resources, including but not limited to, the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).
    Assist the Director with the compilation of data and develop reports on all aspects of the support services area such as the annual report, strategic planning, budget planning, and system wide reports.
    Provide vocational and internship outreach for registered students with disabilities.
    Remain competent and current in disability law through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and workshops related to students with disabilities in post-secondary education.
    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

    Experience applying federal law as it pertains to students with disabilities in a post-secondary education setting, including Section 504/ADA.
    Ability to work well as part of a team and demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, administration, students and the wider community of disability service providers.
    Ability to demonstrate comfort working with students with apparent and non-apparent physical, psychological, and other disabilities.
    Capacity to diffuse volatile situations requiring sound, timely decisions in the interest of the student, the Student Access Office, the University and in conjunction with federal law.
    Ability to create and conduct effective programming for students with diverse abilities.
    Must possess strong supervisory and administrative skills.
    Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
    Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and programs, and meet deadlines.
    Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
    Strong computer background and competence in learning new applications.
    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or related field is required.
    Minimum of four years related work experience in post-secondary education is required.
    Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated recent record of supervisory skills and project management.
