    Job DescriptionSAMMinistries Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Accountant Location: SAMMinistries Administrative OfficesReports To: Chief Financial Officer FLSA Status: Exempt Prepared By: Chief Financial OfficerApproved By: President and CEO Approval Date: March 1, 2023 Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant works in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer to review the General Ledger, reconcile accounts, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. The Senior Accountant maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate contracts, payments, and ensure the accuracy of the Ministry's General Ledger and its financial position.
    1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
      1. Ensure General Ledger accounts are reconciled monthly.
      2. Perform Quarter End and Fiscal Year End analysis in preparation for fiscal and programmatic audits.
      3. Review financial information and provide insight to Chief Financial Officer to help drive decision-making.
      4. Analyze variances in monthly financial reporting and key performance indicators (KPIs).
      5. Coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer to review trends, plan, forecast, identify risks, and develop plans to close gaps.
      6. Help with the implementation of improvements.
      7. Maintain reports and details for month end close following the designated timeline.
    2. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
    3. Develop goals, priorities and timelines on a regular basis, ensuring timely and efficient management and completion of all tasks.
    4. Attend staff meetings and participate in organization-wide planning activities.
    5. Handle other tasks as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, President and CEO, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Development and External Relations Officer, or Chief Infrastructure Officer.
    6. Keep up to date on finance/accounting best practices; tax regulations; and government legislation by reading industry publications, attending workshops, seminars, and conferences.
    7. Undertake all activities with the highest ethical standards.
    8. Must be able to handle multiple tasks; self-direct work conscientiously with minimal supervision.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field. Minimum of 5 years' experience in Accounting/Finance Management, preferably in the non-profit government grant sector. Experience in payroll or accounts payable may substitute for degree.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Monthly mileage reimbursed for applicable and documented work-related mileage.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESAbility to operate a computer, copier, fax machine, and a telephone with intercom. Ability to work in Microsoft Windows XP and Office Suite applications; a willingness to learn new programs and applications is essential; ability to follow instructions, think conceptually, set priorities and interface effectively with staff; ability to coordinate work requirements and to handle several projects simultaneously; ability to work conscientiously without supervision; must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and public speaking ability; ability to maintain strict confidentiality and interact well with all constituencies; ability to work independently but also be flexible in providing assistance as needed.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
