Senior Product Manager, Quantum OS - Seattle, United States - IonQ

    IonQ
    Default job background
    Full time
    Description

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQ's computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution.

We are looking for an experienced and independent Product Manager to help shape the "operating system" for our quantum computers, a software control platform that enables customers and IonQ engineers to get the most out of these powerful systems. As a Product Manager at IonQ, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems. This role can be located in Seattle, Washington or Remote.

Software is a key component of our industry-leading quantum computers. Orchestrated by our control software, the many precisely engineered components in our computers are able to work together as a single high-performance system — configuration, calibration, error mitigation, observability, operability and more — are all enabled through software. As the product manager for this software platform, you'll be responsible for defining and supporting the delivery of the core software and peripheral tools and capabilities that are required for its success.

You don't have to be an expert in quantum physics, quantum algorithms, machine learning, or heterogeneous computing environments to be successful in this role, but familiarity and willingness to learn helps — you'll be working to enable experts in all of this and more.

The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate curiosity and intellectual humility, have a strong familiarity with developer-focused products, and work well with highly specialized experts. These skills will be critical in successfully synthesizing customer feedback, internal user needs, desired hardware capabilities, and commercial and operational goals into a world-class control platform. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on IonQ's market success and drive the broader quantum computing industry as it transitions from a vision into reality.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help define a strategic roadmap for our system control platform ("OS") and supporting products, tools, and business logic, including internal user tools, programming model, and more.
    • Drive business and customer impact with a proactive, "whatever-it-takes" attitude, using a broad toolbox — research, writing, data analysis, stakeholder management, etc.
    • Collaborate with program management to define a roadmap and release cycle that lives at the intersection of an iterative software development process and a diligent, requirements-driven hardware development lifecycle.
    • Define and track key success metrics for the software control platform and supporting tools
    • Collaborate with cross-functional peers in engineering, design, finance, sales, and marketing to define, build, ship, and drive adoption of key capabilities
    • Manage a variety of internal and external "customer" stakeholders, including end-users, system buyers, salespeople, system operators, R&D physicists, and test engineers, prioritizing their needs and identifying approaches that serve many groups at once
    • Act as an advocate for the control software platform across the organization, helping a variety of audiences understand everything from low-level operator and researcher frustrations to high-level product and commercial goals

You'd be a good fit with:

    • 3+ years of experience in product management or similar roles that own the definition and direction of a project or product, with a strong track record of shipped work
    • Experience with physical hardware products, especially the developer-focused on-device, and/or infrastructure software that supports these products
    • Excellent written and oral communication abilities, with the ability to deliver both analytical and persuasive messages to engineers, executives, and end-users
    • A dedication to continuous improvement, with an ability to ship both minor fixes and improvements and entirely new products/capabilities within the same roadmap
    • A strong bias for action and proactive approach to working in ambiguity and uncertainty
    • A customer-committed approach to product management, and an ability to build deep relationships with existing and future customers to deeply understand their needs

You'd be a great fit with:

    • 5+ years of experience in product management or similar roles that own the definition and direction of a project or product, with a strong track record of shipped work
    • Experience in human factors, business operations, process improvement, or similar analytical disciplines at the intersection of people, business, and technology
    • Experience with products in the High-Performance Computing (HPC), Scientific Computing, Hardware Integration, Infrastructure Automation and Orchestration, or similar domains
    • An academic background in computer science, physics, mathematics, or similar

The salary range for this position is $133,046 - $174,192.
