    The Director of Communications for the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) is the highest level of communications authority at the School, overseeing all aspects of marketing and communications. The incumbent advises the Dean and senior ICS leaders, and is the primary liaison to the UCI Office of Strategic Communications. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing communication and outreach via traditional, multimedia, and technology-oriented delivery, and maintains the messaging of the ICS website and all social media accounts. This position advises, conceives, develops and executes communication strategies to promote the School's reputation and brand among prospective students (undergraduate, graduate, professional), alumni, and the academic/professional community, while providing as-needed support and expertise for writing and editing copy, interpreting market research, using analytical strategies to generate leads for graduate admissions, and reaching and attracting target audiences for ICS departments and programs, including a robust and growing set of professional master's programs.

    Required:


    • Minimum of 10 years of experience with a marketing and communications team, post-secondary school experience preferred. 6-8 years in a leadership role required.

    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

    Solid management skills to select, train, evaluate, lead, direct, guide and motivate subordinate staff to produce high quality work; skill to take corrective action as required. Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills. Strong knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and the most appropriate and effective applications. Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Broad knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively manage / supervise professional technical staff, including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc. Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints. Solid knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences. Strong knowledge of financial and personnel management, including understanding of management techniques, guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and best practices Solid skills to create, develop and implement comprehensive long- and short-term strategic communications plans.

    Preferred:

    Strong knowledge of the location, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices and infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, issues in higher education and / or specialized subject matter.

    Special Conditions Preferred:


    • Must have the ability to work onsite as needed.
    • Some local travel required.
