    Position Summary

    The Senior Grant Administrator is experienced in managing federal, state and local, and private grants and awards. This position requires knowledge and experience working in electronic research administrative systems such as Banner, Infoed, Proposal Central, Grants.Gov system (Workspace), Eracommons (ASSIST), and NSF systems ) submissions processed. Extensive pre-award and post-award experience is required, as well as proven organization and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will have exceptional analytical skills and bring a collaborative leadership system. This position is part of the Dean's office and reports to the Assistant Dean, Finance and Operations.

    Essential Functions

    In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Works with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), NSM faculty, Staff and Students, and various institutes to coordinate financial processes such as subcontracts, invoices, and joint research funding.
    • Works closely with ORSP to monitor multiple grants and financial systems to provide appropriate documentation.
    • Develops and prepares accurate and timely financial reports and prepares ad hoc reports as needed for budgeting and planning purposes.
    • Works with faculty on forecasting long-term funding of research staff and strategies to maximize full utilization of staff time across multiple sources of funding.
    • Assist PI and ORSP with establishing subcontracts. Prepares re-budget requests and resulting amendments. Ensures compliance with applicable policies and guidelines.
    • Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to RSEC grant staff to assure grant staff are current and knowledgeable with DU grant policies and processes. Provide support to RSEC in the event of a vacancy in their grant position.
    • Provide organization, leadership, and guidance to PI and grant staff on grant audits by funding organizations, assuring that both program and financial systems are in place and being followed by all parties involved in the grant process.
    • Ability to reconcile the monthly and annual grant activity from the university's electronic reporting system.
    • Maintains a strong understanding of multi-organizational fringe benefits, indirect cost rates, leave reserve, and other financial policies, and their impact on fiscal year reporting.
    • Advises Assistant Dean of Finance and Operation on intuitional and sponsor policies and their impact on the college's financial matters.
    • Assistant faculty in the preparation of grant proposals, including budget development and the review of application requirements and required forms, as well as oversight for uploading the proposal on the grant portal.
    • The Senior Grant Administrator established guidelines for proposal submissions while ensuring compliance with ORSP organizational timelines and standards for proposal submission.
    • Maintain grant application information/ templates, including current IDC rates, tuition rates, fringe rates, leave reserve, and other support resource pages.
    • Identifies and follows policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance, based on guidance.

    • Analytical skills, strong orientation to detail, and ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects.

    • Keen analytical and problems solving abilities
    • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively and diplomatically with a variety of stakeholders.
    • Ability to comprehend contractual documents/agreements
    • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential and privileged information required.
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Excel
    • Understanding of government grants administration, account and project management principles.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 3-4 years of experience in budgeting, accounting, grants or contract management, research administration or another field related to the position.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Advanced degree
    • 4-6 years of experience in budgeting, accounting, grants or contract management, research administration or related experience in academia.
    Working Environment

    1. Standard office environment.
    2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
    3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.
    Physical Activities
    1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
    2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
    Work Schedule

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University's flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

    Salary Grade Number:

    The salary grade for the position is 11.

    Salary Range:

    The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000.

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
