Job Overview


The Business Analyst for Finance & Operations serves as the lead business partner for procurement processes and transactions and financial training activities within the MSB under the direction of Associate Director, Finance and Operations.

As well, they support various projects directed by MSB's Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO).


They serve as the first point of contact for all faculty procurement and as a secondary point of contact to the main Procurement Analyst assigned to the MSB; and work closely with faculty, staff, and students to identify problems, develop solutions, and implement tools to improve operations and enhance the student experience.

As well, they support projects, conduct research, and assist in developing reports and presentations to senior leadership.

Working collaboratively to support the CFAO and MSB Finance team members, they handle responsibilities that include expense submissions, procurement processing, Procard transaction coding and compliance, financial policy updates, and GMS financial training for new employees

The Business Analyst collaborates with the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer to develop spending policies to ensure school-wide compliance and meet budgetary goals; assists the CFAO with short
- and long-term projects as a project manager; draws on relationships with department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals; creates financial reports to monitor timely expense reconciliation and aid in financial reporting and quarterly forecasting; and leads internal audit reviews of expense accounts for proper allocations and established reconciliation processes.


Providing administrative and business support to the CFAO team, the Business Analyst manages the schedule, calendar, and team-related events for the CFAO, including prioritizing and scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements and detailed itineraries, and processing accounts payable.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


Reporting to the Associate Director for Finance and Operations, the Business Analyst also works closely with MSB's Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, and interacts with the Senior Director for Budget & Data Analysis; Assistant Directors of Finance, and Procurement Analysts.


Other constituents include but are not limited to MSB department chairs, faculty, staff, Building Management, Technology Services, the MSB Dean's Office, Accounts Payable, Payroll Services, SupplierCare, University Financial Affairs, and other relevant within campus departments.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ experience in program and/or project management
  • Strong experience with accounts payable and procurement processes
  • Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, and communications
  • Outstanding customer service skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituents
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate complex information
  • Strong organizational skills and thorough knowledge of higher education business practices
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and willingness to contribute to a team effort
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Experience with Word, Financial Reporting through Excel, PowerPoint, TouchNet, and Workday
  • Selfdirection, detailorientation, and strong organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Skilled in webpage maintenance, database management, and basic design
  • Basic project management skills for directing diverse groups, often working in tight deadlines
