    Position Description

    Nashville's Metro Water Services is seeking multiple opportunities for inspectors. These positions perform entry-level inspection, technical, and analytical work to ensure compliance with regulations, requirements, policies, and procedures. Current positions are in the System Services Division at Metro Water Services.

    This position is in the Target Forward Program. Employees in the Target Forward Program can automatically qualify for a job promotion and salary increase once years of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other qualifying parameters have been met.

    Employees at Metro Water Services work around the clock to supply, treat, manage, and protect our water resources in a sustainable manner for the benefit of all who live, work and play in our community. Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers. We are looking for highly engaged individuals to join our team.

    These positions must be available for on-call rotations, and available after hours to respond to emergencies as necessary.
    Typical Duties
    • Investigates sewer and water customer concerns and complaints, must be able to communicate clearly to public on MWS procedures.
    • Investigates sewer related calls/concerns and locate water leaks on water mains or services.
    • Investigates complaints, request for services and/or instances of non-compliance.
    • Locates and mark water/sewer lines.
    • Works with locating contractor locating large water and sewer mains to prevent damage.
    • Works with plumbers and contractors on water and sewer connection issues.
    • Uses GIS system identifying water/sewer infrastructure and pressure zones to help solve water issues.
    • Uses electronic locating equipment.
    • Uses electronic leak detecting equipment.
    • Works with other Metro departments on water/sewer projects.
    • Performs inspections on water/sewer repairs .
    • Investigates damage to in infrastructure by outside parties for billing purposes.
    • Setup emergency water/sewer repair.
    • Performs administrative activities.
    Minimum Qualifications

    High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of responsible inspection, investigative, water, wastewater, or stormwater infrastructure maintenance or compliance experience in support of a regulatory program or service.

    **Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience**

    LICENSES REQUIRED

    Valid Driver License

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Bilingual
    • Working knowledge of water and sewer infrastructure systems
    • General working knowledge of software used (GIS, Cityworks, etc.)
    • General working knowledge of leak detection and/or location equipment
