    Construction Materials Engineering Technician

    S&ME seeks an individual to join our Construction Services team in Nashville, Tennessee as a Construction Materials Engineering Technician and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


    What You Will Do:

    As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and integrity of construction projects. Your daily field testing and observations will guarantee compliance with industry standards and project specifications. From reviewing plans to documenting field activities, your contributions will be crucial in ensuring that structures are built correctly. While the job primarily involves outdoor work, your dedication will be rewarded with the satisfaction of seeing projects come to life.

    • Reviewing plans and specifications for construction sites.
    • Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results.
    • Utilizing Metafield or similar systems for data management.
    • Calibrating equipment to industry standards.
    • Conducting Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC).

    Pay rate is based on level of experience and active certifications.


    Who You Are:

    • You have a high school diploma/GED
    • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
    • You can complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
    • You have effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
    • You have active certification(s): American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils); International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils); DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete, a plus
    • You have 2-5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, sand cone density, and/or asphalt materials and nuclear gauge density testing, a plus

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

    You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

    • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
    • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
    • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
    • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
    • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
    • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
    • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary

The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy, and Reference Check Program.
