    Description
    The Director, Community Standards is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive community standards and ethical decision making program for undergraduate and graduate students. Specifically responsible for the leadership and management of the Office of Community Standards and administration of the student conduct process prioritizing accountability, equity, respect, and resilience; overseeing the case management of alleged academic and non-academic violations of policy; working closely with the Title IX Coordinator to adjudicate all gender-based misconduct incidents involving students; and directly supervising the office staff.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide leadership and management for the Office of Community Standards, including all undergraduate and graduate student conduct functions; serve as a senior-level Hearing Officer/Student Accountability Officer for Educational Conferences and as an appeal officer for Educational Conferences conducted by other Hearing Officers/Student Accountability Officers; serve as a decision designee for the Vice President, Learner Success & Campus Life and/or the Dean of Students.
  • Oversee case management and the case assignment process for all suspected policy violations including academic integrity; ensure that all student conduct referrals are addressed in a consistent and timely manner through appropriate student conduct processes and procedures; utilize adaptive resolution methods including, but not limited to restorative and transformative justice, when appropriate; provide ongoing training and indirect oversight of Area Coordinators that serve as Hearing Officers/Student Accountability Officers.
  • Manage all investigations and adjudicate student conduct matters involving student organizations (i.e., fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, club sports, etc.) that fall under the purview of the Community Code of Student Conduct; as appropriate support investigations at the request of the Title IX Coordinator for student organization Gender-Based Misconduct and/or Title IX complaints.
  • Advise the Campus Life leadership team on all related public policy issues, relevant case law, and professional standards and best practices; ensure that the College's student conduct processes are in compliance with all federal and state legislative requirements including FERPA and the Clery Act; and act as the liaison with the College's General Counsel and Title IX Coordinator on student conduct matters, whenever appropriate and advisable.
  • In conjunction with the Title IX Coordinator, adjudicate all student-on-student gender-based misconduct cases; serve on the case management team; and communicate decision outcomes and determine sanctions when a respondent is found responsible for a policy violation.
  • In partnership with the Departments of Public Safety and Residence Life, manage and coordinate investigative follow up on student conduct matters; monitor and evaluate college policy enforcement processes and procedures; regularly identify and implement ongoing improvements.
  • As part of an annual policy review effort, comprehensively evaluate student conduct processes, procedures, and programs within the Code of Student Conduct; engage with and solicit input from community members, including students; and facilitate the development and implementation of any recommended policy revisions or changes.
  • Develop and facilitate new student orientation and in-service training for student leaders, resident assistants, fraternity and sorority leadership, student athletes, faculty, staff, and other constituents on College student conduct processes and policy.
  • Oversee the management of all undergraduate and graduate discipline files and data, including management of and training for the case management database; prepare regular reports of key statistics and identified trends.
  • Oversee the sanction compliance process in collaboration with the office's Administrative Coordinator.
  • Serve as a case manager for the College's CARE Team and Bias-Related Experience Team. Advise and execute individualized interventions for students to support their personal and academic success.
  • Serve as a dean on call member of the crisis team; respond to, or assist, in a campus crisis or student emergency situation; work with medical personnel or emergency services staff to assess students' status and evaluate ability to return to campus; conduct necessary follow-up with Public Safety, local agencies, and/or parents and staff as needed; and assist with coordination, communication, and implementation of emergency response plans and actions.
  • Provide individual guidance, advice, and counsel to students related to personal, academic, and community matters; refer when necessary and/or appropriate.
  • Oversee development and management of Community Standards' content for the website and student hub in collaboration with the office's Administrative Coordinator.
  • Serve on departmental and campus committees as assigned by the Dean of Students.

    WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

    Master's Degree required

    A minimum of 10 years of related experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing staff and a budget.

    Must have excellent judgement; strong leadership, diplomacy, and team management skills with the ability to engage others through a participative process, while serving as key decision maker.

    Must have advanced knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation.

    Demonstrated experience in student group advisement and development; student and staff training development; and student leadership program development.

    Must have strong knowledge and command of college safety policies, student conduct processes, and related legal considerations in student affairs.

    Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive student body, faculty, staff, and other constituents.

    Must have advanced project and program management and evaluation skills; sound financial and budget management.

    Demonstrated comfort in public speaking and presenting; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

    Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents and alumni. Special emphasis in the following areas: Public Safety, Student Advising and Success, Glavin, Legal Counsel, Admissions, Title IX, and Alumni and Friends Network.

    Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

    HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

    Serves as a member of the Dean on-call staff

    Ability to travel on and off campus outside of normal business hours

    Evening and weekend work expected

    It is recommended, but not required, to have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.
