    Job Description and Duties

    ***This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.

    If you are not a current peace officer and in possession of a POST – Academy, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, you are not eligible for this position.

    STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER SUPERVISOR (RANGER/LIFEGUARD) –OCOTILLO WELLS DISTRICT/ PICACHO STATE RECREATIONAL AREA

    The reporting location for this position is Picacho SRA, located in Winterhaven, CA. This position works under the direction of the Superintendent III.

    This is a very diverse assignment full of challenges ranging from law enforcement calls for service, medical aid response, and search and rescue at a dynamic and remote recreation area located on the Colorado River. This position supports the District wide Public Safety Program and will be assigned to provide services at other units within the district based on the operational need. Incumbent may also assist with special event review, and oversight of seasonal employees or volunteers, the Field Training Program, and Interagency Coordiantion. This position works actively with Public Safety agencies from both Imperial County California, Yuma and La Paz Counties in Arizona, and the Federal Government. This position will need to operate 4x4, OHVs, and patrol vessels (Training will be provided). Both Rangers and Lifeguards will be considered for this position.

    Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

    This recruitment may be used to fill identical vacancies which may occur within 180 days of the Final Filing Date of this job posting.

    Working Conditions


    • Sit for prolonged periods of time.


    • Patrol by 4x4, ATV, Motorcycle, etc. in off road environment for extended periods of time over difficult terrain.


    • Wear required peace officer protective equipment.


    • Wear required OHV Safety Equipment as required per policy.


    • Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.


    • Work environment may have moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperature, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.


    • May involve exposure to aggressive visitors.


    • Work outdoors in various types of weather; work in unpleasant conditions (, bad weather, around raw sewage, vomit, blood).
