Position Summary:
- Maintain medical records for a variety of purposes, lab work, xrays, immunizations, cursory, etc.
- Perform other general clerical duties including, but not limited to typing correspondence, form letters, schedules, forms and reports.
- Proofread, copy documents, process incoming and outgoing mail, answer telephone, receive visitors and file.
- Maintain records of services and prepare billing documents submitted to appropriate agencies for facility reimbursement of health care costs.
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
- Complete daily audits of medical records to ensure accuracy and quality of documentation and review results for any pattern of deficiencies and communicate these findings to healthcare staff.
- Process requests for medical information from outside hospitals, clinics, physicians and secures pertinent medical information from other sources relative to the treatment of patients.
- Enter the required information of each detainee visit with a healthcare professional into the appropriate data system.
- Coordinate notification of transfers to other health service departments, obtain medical records and review records daily for completeness and accuracy prior to transfer.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
- Maintain accountability of staff, detainees and property; adhere to safety practices. It is expected the incumbent will perform other duties as assigned with in his/her scope of work determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma and two (2) years office experience including word processing or computer data entry experience. Two (2) years Medical records experience required. Supervisor experience preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid driver's license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
