    Default job background
    Description

Data4Cure - Senior scientist (Leadership track) - Computational systems biology and machine learning

Data4Cure helps transform vast biomedical datasets and literature into knowledge to advance precision medicine. We are working at the intersection of bioinformatics, machine learning and semantic knowledge integration. Over the last few years we have developed and commercialized the Biomedical Intelligence Cloud - a leading platform used by global pharmaceutical and biotech companies to synthesize knowledge from millions of datasets and publications to better understand disease mechanisms, help identify new drug targets and biomarkers, select matching patient populations, identify opportunities for drug repositioning and combine drugs to maximize therapeutic benefit.

This is an exceptional opportunity for highly motivated computational biologists and data scientists to step into a senior-level position at Data4Cure to help us drive the next stages of the development of the platform and our company. The ideal candidate for this role has significant experience analyzing large omics datasets and developing software tools in this area (in either research or commercial setting). You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in computational biology, machine learning, computer science, and statistics to develop and improve algorithms for analysis of multidimensional biomedical data and provide creative solutions to cutting-edge problems in genomics and drug discovery. You will have the opportunity to own or co-own individual app or feature development projects from conception to deployment and help drive their integration into the boarder platform ecosystem. Your role will include presentations to scientists and senior leaders (pharmaceutical and biotech clients) to communicate new platform developments and case studies. In this role you will need to quickly adapt to new research areas and be able to clearly communicate scientific and bioinformatic developments to diverse stakeholders both within our company and externally.

You will work within an exceptional group of peers: bioinformaticians, data scientists, and software engineers dedicated to applying their technical skills to advance precision medicine. You will have the opportunity to quickly progress and take on roles with increasing responsibilities within the company up to and including senior leadership roles.

    Your job

    • Help drive the design and development of new tools and platform components in our Biomedical Intelligence Cloud Platform to improve existing platform capabilities and extend the platform to new research areas
    • Work closely with other members of our team as well as our customers and partners to identify most pressing challenges and address them using cutting-edge computational biology and machine learning applications
    • Help drive the adoption of our platform and new platform tools by developing case studies, presentations and scientific publications showing the application of the platform to pressing problems in precision medicine

    Your qualifications

    • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science or a related discipline
    • 5+ years experience (in industry or academic environments, work towards PhD counts) in bioinformatics, data science, scientific software development or related role
    • Deep knowledge and experience analyzing large omics and molecular data either from industry or academia
    • Experience with NGS platforms, systems biology and machine learning
    • Comfortable developing high-quality source code for large projects
    • Advanced skills in a high-level programming language, preferably Python and/or R
    • Proficiency with the Linux OS and command-line environment
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Strong work ethic and ability to finish tasks on time

Additional qualifications (bonus points if you have experience in one or more of these areas)

    • Cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud)
    • Web services engineering
    • Database systems (including SQL, NoSQL and/or graph databases)
    • Linux management
    • High performance computing environments
    • Experience in modern web frameworks, web service development, Java Script frameworks (Angular, React)

    What we offer

    • A culture which values impactful work, innovation and drive to solve important problems in biology and medicine
    • Competitive salary and equity compensation plan
    • Excellent benefits plan
