Cypress Creek Hospital is a free-standing 128-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in north Houston, TX, and minutes south of The Woodlands. Cypress Creek Hospital features individual units for adolescents and adults and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Cypress Creek Hospital. We are comprised of a tenured dedicated team of Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Mental Health Technicians and Support Staff where delivering compassionate care is our mission.


We currently have an opportunity for PRN Intake (Admissions) Registered Nurses.


The Intake Registered Nurse is responsible for nursing care, medical screening, and triage for all psychiatric/chemical dependency patients presenting for assessment and evaluation.

RN assists in coordinating the admission process for inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient programs and to facilitate referrals for outpatient treatment services and other community resources.


Hours are based on departmental, and facility needs and may include day, evening, and weekend hours, as directed by the CNO or CEO/Managing Director.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Perform initial medical screening.
  • Perform admissions assessments/evaluations.
  • Assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Administer medications as ordered by physician.
  • Perform nurse to nurse screening by phone on patients being transferred from other facilities.
  • Obtain/document precertification on admissions as necessary.
  • Handle intake calls, set appointments and complete followup as necessary.
  • Facilitate referrals to outpatient treatment services as necessary.
  • Communicate patient needs to unit nurses, physicians, and families.
  • Report unsafe conditions.
  • Provides agespecific communication, limit setting and interventions.
  • Provides health education to patients and their families.
  • Interact with patients and staff in professional manner, promotes teamwork and demonstrates Service Excellence
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Intake Registered Nurse Requirements:


  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
  • One year experience adult/adolescent psychiatric and/or chemical dependency nursing and/or psychiatric assessments preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to work twelve (12) hour overnight shifts, including some weekends.
