    Description

    The Associate Director of Grants will:

    • Conduct effective prospect research, grant proposal development, grant management, stewardship and relationship management, cross-departmental collaboration, and maintenance of grant tracking systems
    • Be the subject matter expert on Foundation, granting institutions, and government grants supporting non-development staff in their learning and raising the level of collaboration around fund raising among staff.
    • Collaborate with organizational stakeholders to create and implement an annual grants and institutional funder stewardship plan consistent with organizational and department goals; Through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
    • Identify & secure funding for existing and previously untapped sponsorship opportunities such as Girl Scout Cookie Season, Climate Conference, older girl leadership conferences, and underserved community membership growth initiatives.
    • Raise $1,000,000 annually through renewal and new grant sources
    • Develop a system to organize grants, sponsorship opportunities, and timelines
    • Lead on implementation and cross-indexing in CRM
    • Manage supporting staff
    • Willingness to serve on key regional clubs and community organizations, as assigned
    • Ability to travel across Council geographic region, and work in-office 3 days per week
    Skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to:
    • Excellent persuasive writing skills and ability to include data and storytelling in grants and other fundraising writing pieces
    • Develop and maintain critical relationships key staff and GSNorCal volunteers, individuals and community partners
    • Research, budget and database management
    • Experience prospecting, writing and managing Federal, State, and City grants
    • Experience and knowledge of BIPOC and underserved communities in Council purview
    • Highly organized and collaborative
    • Experience working in CRMS and related interactive databases
    • Project management experience, knowledge and use of Gantt charting
    • Metrics and goal-oriented
    • Management experience leading one or more staff member
    • Knowledge or history of participation in Girl Scouting

    Daily, weekly and monthly activities include:

    Grant Management:
    • Conduct ongoing prospect research to ensure a robust grant funding portfolio and pipeline
    • Develop compelling grant proposals; Including planning, writing, reviewing, editing, finalizing proposal packages and required attachments
    • Oversee and manage financial documents for submission with proposals
    • Ensure compliance with awarded grant terms, appropriate funder recognition
    • Manage awarded grants department processes
    • Supply impact reports and post-reporting data when required
    • Work collaboratively and supply Impact reports to Giving Circle partners
    • Serve as steward of all grant dollars awarded from notice of award to program implementation to final grant report
    • Collaborate with Program, Evaluation, Property, and Finance staff to ensure fiscal responsibility, implementation, and evaluation of grant-funded projects
    • Collaborate and communicate with internal stakeholders to provide reports on completed grant projects
    • Manage grant and report timelines in a way that facilitates efficient coordination and tracking
    Relationship Management and Stewardship:
    • Plan, implement, and evaluate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of 60+ grant funders and prospects
    • Serve as a representative of GSNorCal to various types of institutions in connection with the grant process
    • Collaborate with Program Staff, and Marketing & Communications to best utilize communication channels for funder cultivation and stewardship
    • Write content for Fund Development publications, in partnership with the Fund-Dev Team, Program Staff, and Marketing & Communications
    Tracking Systems and Administration:
    • Lead development and implementation of an organizational system, or library, to manage and house grant materials and develop and maintain timelines
    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on funders and grants awarded; In database, hard-copy and online document management systems
    • Track institutional funding revenue, stewardship activities, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and other strategies to identify gaps, celebrate success, and assist in annual planning
    Essential Qualifications:
    • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience writing and managing grant proposals, and reports
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing complex projects
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
    • Affinity for youth development, alignment with Girl-based programming; leadership and motivation for under-served and BIPOC communities
    • Demonstratable ability to create and successfully execute a multi-strategy, multi-year annual grant development plan
    • Ability to grasp and effectively communicate complex grant management requirements to stakeholders
    • Strong project and data management, budget management, data analysis and data application skills to perform day-to-day tactical tasks
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately execute complex processes; Ability to identify opportunities for process and procedure improvement
    • Able to set priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment with minimal supervision
    • Experience in relationship-building, developing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with internal and external partners
    • Track record of successful collaboration with marketing, program and finance departments
    • High-level of computer literacy and proficiency; Experience using donor database software (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge/NXT preferred) or similar CRM tools
    • Proficient in cloud-based applications such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, SharePoint, or Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
    • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities
    • Able to work a flexible schedule including pre-scheduled evenings and weekends
    • Able to attend pre-scheduled in-person activities and/or meetings across the assigned territory
    • Experience managing and leading staff, creating goals, writing and delivering performance evaluations
    • Able to work a consistent in-office and remote schedule, with reliable, high-speed internet connection if remote working
    • Valid California Driver's license, access to reliable transportation, proof of insurance
    • Able to pass Girl Scouts of Northern California's background screening process (including fingerprinting, criminal education, social security and Department of Motor Vehicle verification)
    Desired Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism or other relevant liberal arts or business major and/or equivalent work experience
    • Knowledge of the Northern California donor market
    • Knowledge of Girl Scouts mission and programs
    • Knowledge of Health Equity, Leadership, Behavioral Health, STEM, STEAM, and Social Justice topics and programs
    • Experience with environmental, conservation, and land-use grants
    • Bilingual in Spanish, or other languages and cultural awareness. Staff who are proficient in reading/writing and speaking in another language and use their dual-language skills in their assigned job duties will be eligible for a stipend up to a maximum of $3,000 annually.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs (boxes, materials, equipment)
    • Possess endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching
