THE OPPORTUNITY:


The Park District is recruiting for an experienced Legislative Assistant at the Park District's Administrative Office, 2950 Peralta Oaks Ct., Oakland.

The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

This position reports to the Chief of Legislative Government Affairs or designee.

Under general supervision, performs specialized legislative, administrative, and confidential staff support to the Chief of Legislative and Government Affairs; may represent the District to federal, state, and local legislative groups and other agencies as assigned; and performs related duties as required.

Essential Functions:


  • Performs a variety of difficult and complex support functions on legislative measures proposed at the federal, state, and local levels and coordinates staff review of these measures
  • Supports the Government Affairs unit with tracking and managing local, state, and federal policy correspondence, and confidential projects, which advance the District's legislative and policy interests;
  • Tracks, reviews, and compiles election results to analyze voter trends as they relate to parks, trails, and open space;
  • Serves as Park District liaison with legislative offices and assists in organizing events with legislators;
  • Tracks and maintains a current knowledge of state legislation data;
  • Assists with developing staff reports; performs and leads Districtwide surveys;
  • Conducts legislative and policy research;
  • Drafts documents including confidential correspondences, staff reports, minutes, and other legislative support documents;
  • Supports the preparation and assists in making presentations about legislative priorities, recommendations, and other materials for consideration with the Board of Directors, community groups, policy leaders, and other public agencies; assists and coordinates the Park District's presence on social media for policy and legislative outcomes; tracks and assists in communication about grant guidelines as they are developed at the federal, state, and local levels;
