    Description

    Job Summary

    Are you a professional with a passion for accounting and financial management? Join the dynamic team at Teachers Retirement System of Georgia as a Senior Accounting Manager.

    In this role, you'll manage and perform professional accounting, financial reporting, and budget functions under general supervision.

    As an integral team member, you will:

    • Develop and implement solutions to complex accounting issues.
    • Perform various accounting duties, including oversight of accounts payable, payroll functions, and monthly account closings.

    This position requires minimum 5+ years of management and supervisory experience. It offers a broad scope of responsibilities, ensuring each day brings new challenges.

    This role reports to the Assistant Controller in the Financial Services Division.

    Minimum Qualifications & Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from accredited college or university.
    • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and analysis.
    • CPA or relevant certification.
    • 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.
    • Strong computer skills, including advanced Excel.
    • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

    Preferred Additional Qualifications

    • 3+ years of audit experience.
    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Management Reporter, and WDesk.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage daily financial activities to ensure timely and accurate completion.
    • Oversee Cash Management function and approval of check requests.
    • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and strategic planning processes.
    • Coordinate tax filings, accounting closes, and financial reports preparation.
    • Assist in managing and staffing Financial Services.
    • Design and code financial reports using specialized tools.
    • Assess and enhance accounting policies and procedures.
    • Support all work within the Financial Services Division.
    • Perform other assigned duties.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of public administration, accounting principles, and relevant laws and regulations.
    • Skills in financial analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
    • Effective communication and ability to handle critical decisions and situations professionally.
    • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and build effective relationships.

    Physical Demands of the Job

    The job involves sedentary work, sitting most of the time with occasional lifting or moving of objects.
