    The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department with over 300 full-time faculty members, over 400 courtesy/affiliate faculty members, 132 trainees and over 300 staff with an annual budget of over $110m.

    Department faculty provide clinical services in the University of Washington School of Medicine, University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake and Northwest and Harborview Medical Center.

    Faculty members also serve at Seattle Children's Hospital, the Veteran's Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; which comprise 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites; in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond.

    As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department's highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest and is the largest program in the United States.

    We offer 26 graduate medical education programs, including the Psychiatry Residency and Clinical Psychology Intern/Resident programs, 24 subspecialty clinical fellowships (ACGME & Non-ACGME), and required and elective medical student clerkships for 276 students.

    In addition, our education program runs 6 workforce training programs for mental health practitioners across Washington State and the Pacific Northwest Region.


    The Department's robust research portfolio reached $55 million in grant and contract awards in fiscal year 2023 for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health.

    The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care.

    Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.

    The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a 50% FTE Senior Computer Specialist (NE S 8).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES System Planning and Management (55%)

    The Senior Computer Specialist is responsible for the management of Department IT's system infrastructure at various locations including Pat Steel Building, UW Tower, Northwest Hospital, and Health Sciences Building and other facilities supported by the Department IT Services and remote environments


    These responsibilities include:


    Install, configure, maintain, and update all faculty and staff desktop hardware and software, laptops, and printers, including operating systems, applications, communications, instructional and network software, and peripherals, ensuring compatibility with central UW computing systems and standards, including a focus on systems security.


    Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, resolving those that can be solved on the spot and escalating others to vendors, other computing staff, or other resources.

    Assure that client problems are successfully resolved.

    Design, implement, maintain, and review security standards for client workstations, peripherals, and servers. Install firewalls and make updates and patches as necessary. Monitor staff compliance with security protocol.

    Implement and maintain an information systems strategy that supports the Department goals and objectives.

    Assist in the development, maintenance and distribution of automated Server and Workstation update patches.

    Maintain inventory database and advise Director of IT on replacements and order hardware and software through UW Purchasing.
    Direct User Support and Training / Policies and Procedures Management (35%)

    The Senior Computer Specialist is responsible for directing and supporting the faculty and staff in their use of the computer system at Pat Steel Building, UW Tower, Northwest Hospital, Health Sciences Building, and other facilities supported by the Department IT Services and remote environments


    These responsibilities include:
    Act as liaison between clients and other departments, vendors, and support groups. Advise faculty and staff concerning efficient and effective uses of technology.


    Keep current with campus standards, technology developments and College guidelines to ensure that the highest standards of reliability and performance are met and to advise clients about specific hardware and software purchases.

    Work with faculty and staff in analysis of desktop support needs.

    Setup and monitor various hybrid Zoom presentations, providing support for presenters and participants. Configure and support conference/meeting rooms, including A/V equipment.

    Coordinate set up of new networks and maintain existing networks and set up networking in off-campus offices.

    Implement internal controls according to UW policies.
    Other Duties and Project Work (10%)

    Cover vacations and absences for other Department IT staff.

    Self-paced learning for all new technologies that the Department IT Services department decides to support.

    Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT field.

    Two years' work-related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

    Demonstrated ability to communicate technical computer problems in a non-technical way to faculty and staff.

    Advanced troubleshooting skills, both onsite and remote.

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Demonstrated experience installing and imaging computers.

    Experience supporting MS Windows and Office suite software.

    Knowledge of Local Area Networks.

    Certifications or equivalent experience may substitute for education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience supporting computers at UW Medicine.

    Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

    Experience with remote support via phone, email, and remote assist tools. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must be able to travel around the Seattle area and transport IT equipment.

    Required to be available for questions and issue resolution on a nearly immediate basis during business hours When deploying upgrades to the server or software applications, employee works in the evening or on the weekend to minimize disruption of clinical and research activities that rely on these applications.

    Hybrid work is an option, but during the training period must be on-site for a period of 45 days. After that time a reassessment will be done to determine hybrid schedule.
