    Overview

    LifeLong Medical Care is seeking an Deputy Chief Medical Officer. The Deputy CMO assists in the overall functioning of the clinical services of the organization and serves as member of the CMO and Clinical Operations leadership team. Supervises Associate Medical Directors (AMD) and other program leaders as assigned. Along with the CMO, the Deputy represents the clinical perspective and voice in day-to-day administrative dialogue on priorities and strategy and represents LifeLong and its' medical staff in the community, with health plans, public health departments, and local hospitals, etc.

    As a Federally Qualified Health Center in Northern California with over 45 years of dedicated service to the community, LifeLong serves over 66,000 patients in the East Bay Area's socio-economically underserved regions. We provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and school-based services at more than 15 primary care sites across Oakland, Berkeley, and West Contra Costa County. From opening a residential respite program for homeless persons discharged from hospitals to offering free COVID testing to the community, we are innovative and responsive to our times' social and medical needs.     Benefits:

    Compensation: $250,000/annually depending on when finished with residency, annual stipend, a sign-on bonus, and excellent benefits: medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, dependent and domestic partner coverage, 403(b) retirement savings plan, loan repayment programs, and commuter benefits. LifeLong qualifies for federal and state loan repayment programs (HPSA score is 21). Acceptance rates may vary year to year based on funding levels and the number of applicants.

    In accordance with LifeLong Medical Care's commitment to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, we have adopted a Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine Policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families; our patients and visitors; and the community at large from infectious diseases, that vaccinations may reduce. This policy will comply with all applicable laws and is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Order of the California State Public Health Officer.     Responsibilities

    Clinical Program oversight and development

    • Directs and supervises clinical aspects of LifeLong Medical Care as designated.
    • Provides direct supervision of AMDs and other program leaders as designated.
    • Provides leadership to clinical staff and encourages their professional performance and development.
    • Works with CMO and other leadership to conceptualize, plan, prioritize, integrate, and support ongoing clinical and operational program development and priorities.
    • Leads special clinical and program research projects as needed.
    • Directs and supervises clinical programs as assigned.
    • Advocates for health improvement strategies with community and healthcare partners.
    • Leads medical education initiatives and works with the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship (APPF) program and FMRP directors to ensure collaboration between our educational programs, clinical providers, and operational leadership.
    • As part of the CMO and Operations leadership team, develops policies, procedures, and workflows.
    • Maintains adherence with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Provides direct care to patients for some portion of FTE depending on what other duties are assigned.
    • Works with Human Resources (HR) on all aspects of provider recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Works with CMO and other leadership to assure compliance with HRSA and FTCA regulations, including peer review, credentialing, sentinel event reviews, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Quality

    • Supports quality initiatives and promotes an organization wide culture of continuous quality improvement.
    • Formulates and reviews medical policies and procedures as needed.
    • Participates as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) and the Quality and Risk Management Committee (QRMC).
    • Promotes, champions and leads clinical quality improvement projects.

    • Willingness to educate at all levels and value the role of education.
    • Experience in providing medical leadership in community-based health organizations.
    • Ability to effectively support, motivate and supervise staff, encourage, and nurture development and growth, to build a strong and productive team.
    • Strong organizational, administrative, multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a positive friendly manner and to be flexible and adaptive to change.
    • Ability to effectively present information to others, including other employees, community partners and vendors.
    • Ability to work with individuals and organizations at the local level to build support.
    • Ability to seek direction/approval on essential matters, yet work independently with little onsite supervision, using professional judgment and diplomacy.

    Job Requirements

    • Current California MD/DO license; board certified or eligible in a primary care specialty such as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Geriatrics.
    • Current D.E.A. certificate.
    • Minimum of two years of administrative experience including program planning, supervision and quality oversight.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office Word, Excel, Outlook.

    Job Preferences

    • Community Health experience.
    • Experience as part of a team-based care model.
