- Team Management: Supervise and lead a payroll team, ensuring effective collaboration, and assigning tasks to meet deadlines.
- Payroll Processing: Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and withholdings.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and other relevant standards.
- Record Maintenance: Manage employee records, including updating information, tracking leave balances, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Problem Resolution: Address and resolve payroll discrepancies, errors, and inquiries promptly, collaborating with HR and finance as needed.
- Software Management: Utilize and manage payroll software systems, staying informed about updates and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Reporting: Generate and analyze payroll reports for management, providing insights into payroll-related metrics and trends.
- Audit Support: Prepare for and participate in payroll audits, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with audit requirements.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of payroll policies and procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with employees, addressing payroll-related queries and providing guidance on payroll matters.
- Training: Train staff on payroll procedures, updates, and compliance requirements, ensuring a skilled and knowledgeable team.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency in payroll operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years of previous payroll team lead or supervisory experience is required.
- Proficiency in US Payroll is essential; Canadian payroll experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standard operating procedures for the payroll department.
- Strong understanding of time and attendance principles for accurate payroll processing.
- Technical proficiency in payroll systems, including but not limited to ADP, OTL, or others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with experience in creating VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of payroll procedures are essential for success in this role.
