    Job Type: Full-Time

    The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is looking for a Safety Support Coordinator to join their team. As part of this role, you will be supporting the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) efforts within the bureau.

    This position, reporting to the BES HSSE Manager, involves developing, analyzing, and implementing safety and occupational health programs, providing advice to personnel, contractors, and stakeholders on safety and health matters, conducting hazard assessments, reviewing safety policies and procedures for compliance, and coordinating training programs.


    Although primarily based at the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Facility, this position also requires providing support for safety and occupational health at the Tryon Creek Wastewater Facility and Water Pollution Control Laboratory.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Contributing to fostering a strong "safety culture" in the Bureau
    • Assisting in managing safety and occupational health training for staff and managers, including New Hire Safety Orientation
    • Participating in audits, observations, and inspections
    • Providing support and consulting on occupational safety and health topics
    • Reviewing safety and occupational health policies and procedures
    • Managing files related to safety and occupational health programs
    • Assessing safety and health risks in operations, new processes, and facilities
    • Participating in incident investigations and offering corrective actions
    • Contributing to safety reviews of construction projects
    • Supporting safety committees in driving compliance across the Bureau


    The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a proactive approach to achieving objectives. An interest in occupational safety and a commitment to promoting a positive safety culture are highly desirable.
