- Ensures a positive client experience for assigned customers throughout the execution of a single or multiple projects or programs. Engages with Project Managers to assess ongoing project execution success, to support ongoing risk assessment and mitigation, to represent the diverse project teams supporting their customers.
- Manages and develops a team of Project Managers. Strategically places members of the team in assignments that create wins for the individual, the client, and for Black & Veatch.
- Refines and ensures the implementation of the processes that the team will follow in creating proposals, project execution and project close-out.
- Understands all aspects of medium to large Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC)/Service projects, including risk to cost, schedule, quality.
- Responsible for the successful execution of contracted engineering/architecture, procurement, and construction scope in the areas of performance, financial metrics, planning, schedule, quality, contractual compliance, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Along with the Project Manager, provides for the successful staffing of all projects by knowing the larger team available at Black & Veatch.
- Acts as a client advocate and safety leader.
- Obtains new/repeat business by aiding in outreach to new clients and through excellence in project execution with existing clients.
- Manages risk through communication, contract set-up, and proposal language. Supports contract negotiations with clients.
- Participates in client business development and client account management activities.
- Prefer four-year bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
- 12+ years of relevant experience in Industrial Manufacturing, specific experience in Food & Beverage desired
- Business Development - Identifies client requirements, develops and maintains relationships with clients, conducts market research, writes and presents project estimates and proposals including scope, cost, and schedule according to client requirements and bid processes.
- Business Acumen - Negotiates contract commercial terms, manages project budgets, costs, and receivables, manages contracts and legal issues, analyzes and reports health metrics as a basis for improvement, applies knowledge of policies and regulations to project scope, and builds relationships with key stakeholders.
- Execution - Uses Black and Veatch project management phases and methodology including, project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closeout to direct work, manages changes and risk on scope, cost, schedule, quality, and safety based on available resources and client requirements, manages constructability and procurement, manages warranty plan.
- Leadership - Communicates clear expectations, goals, and vision. Manages performance of direct reports, motivates, coaches, and mentors professionals, delegates project work, practices behaviors supporting diversity and inclusion, and collaboration to achieve results.

The Opportunity
Black & Veatch is growing their Industrial Manufacturing business. We are looking for an experienced Project Director with a background in design, construction and/or operations within the manufacturing, ag/bio-process, and food/beverage industries. The Project Director position at Black and Veatch is responsible for all aspects of medium to large Engineering, Procurement, Construction or Design Build and associated Service projects, including risk to safety, cost, schedule, and quality. They oversee the successful execution of contracted engineering, procurement, and construction scope in the areas of performance, financial metrics, planning, schedule, quality, contractual compliance, safety, and client satisfaction. Provides for the successful staffing of the project. Serves as the "voice of the customer", understanding specific customer requirements and working closely with other teams within Black & Veatch (sales, marketing, solutions, operations, etc) to satisfy customer needs across multiple projects. Understands past project performance and works with sales to identify new opportunities for client engagement. This position manages and leads medium to large sized teams of multi-discipline professionals, as well as coordinates and integrates the activities associated with the engineering, procurement, construction, and startup elements of the project team, including the activities of all third-party companies contributing to the initiative.
