    Job Description

Are you passionate about championing the rights of tribal communities and safeguarding the environment? The Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC) is searching for a dedicated Development Director to spearhead our fundraising endeavors and foster invaluable donor relationships.

This critical role involves developing and implementing fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, managing grant applications, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization's programs and initiatives.

The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director to achieve fundraising goals and advance the mission of the organization.

The position involves regular interaction with high-level tribal, federal, state, and NGO policymakers; requires local, regional, national, and international visibility; and serves as the voice of CRITFC to build relationships and raise awareness around tribal priorities.

CRITFC offers competitive compensation and an exceptional benefits package, including medical, dental, 401(k), 12 days of vacation (to start), 13 paid holidays, and paid sick time.

We provide professional development opportunities, promote from within, and have a Native hiring preference as part of our commitment to our people.

As a result, you will find a work environment that supports and inspires our shared goals of protecting the natural world and the tribal cultural connection to it.

This position is hybrid eligible based out of the Portland Office.

    Responsibilities

    Fundraising Strategy and Planning:
Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the organization's financial needs and long-term sustainability.
Collaborate with the leadership team to set fundraising goals, timelines, and benchmarks.
Identify new fundraising opportunities and innovative approaches to attract diverse sources of funding.

    Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management:
Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources.
Create personalized engagement plans to steward current funding and expand the funding base.
Regularly communicate with funders through various channels to provide updates on the organization's impact and progress.

    Grant Management:
Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities from governmental agencies, foundations, and other funding bodies.
Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines.
Maintain accurate records of grants, proposals, reports, and correspondence.

    Fundraising Campaigns:
Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising campaigns, initiatives, and events to raise awareness, engage supporters and raise funds.
Collaborate with the Executive Director, government affairs, and communications teams to develop materials and messages for fundraising campaigns.

    Budgeting and Financial Oversight:
Work with the finance team to develop fundraising budgets and monitor income projections.
Track and analyze fundraising data to assess the effectiveness of different strategies and make data-driven decisions.

    Commission Engagement:
Collaborate with the Commission to leverage their networks and expertise in fundraising efforts.
Provide regular reports and updates to the Commission on fundraising progress and strategies.

    Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to fundraising and donor management.
Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities and outcomes.

    Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts, grants, and donor cultivation.
Strong understanding of tribal communities, their values, and cultural sensitivities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies.
Proficiency in fundraising software, donor databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Leadership experience, including managing a team.
Commitment to the mission and values of the tribal non-profit organization.

Additionally, the preferred candidate will be:
An enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe, preferably a member of one of the four CRITFC member tribes; and
    Proficient in computer skills

    CRITFC Motor Vehicle Policy

This job occasionally requires driving a CRITFC vehicle or your own vehicle for business (mileage compensated), and therefore you must be able to meet the terms of the CRITFC Motor Vehicle policy.

Per the policy, applicants are required to have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record for the past three years.

This includes a three-year record clear of the following:

    Reckless Driving
    Driving Under the Influence
    Suspension or revoked license
No more than two at-fault accidents
No more than one major violation or two minor violations.

    Native Hiring Preference

CRITFC implements a tribal preference policy and encourages citizens and descendants of our member tribes (Nez Perce, Umatilla, Warm Springs, and Yakama) and other federally recognized tribes to apply.

CRITFC is committed to building a culturally inclusive community and a work environment that respects and inspires every person.

Members of historically marginalized groups including women, people of color, those with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, those who have served in the military, and members of other underrepresented communities are invited to apply.
