- Develops leaders of character who live by the Norwich University Guiding Values.
- Fosters an ethical climate by demonstrating good moral judgment.
- Coaches, counsels, and mentors cadets while enforcing university policies, rules, and regulations.
- Utilizes the EAB system to identify high-risk cadets and directs them to appropriate services necessary to achieve success.
- Designs, updates, and implements three unique training plans for HHC, Drill, and Cavalry units working in collaboration with the Assistant Commandant (AC).
- Plans/supervises cadet-led special unit week FTX before the report date of our first-year cadets (rooks)
- Coordinates training with Cavalry Troop trainer.
- Determines the suitability of ceremonial support requests.
- Assists AC with scheduling and arranging all transportation for performing groups.
- Assists AC with scheduling and arranging all billeting off campus.
- Assists AC with distribution and accounting for per diem monies issued to students.
- Serves as a travel card holder, responsible for monthly accountability and expense reports.
- Travels off campus as needed with performing and competition units.
- Coordinates with internal departments to support events requiring specialty unit support.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for student guidance and counseling.
- Develops and implements training plans.
- Monitors cadets' academic, training, fitness, and overall performance.
- Mentors, instructs, and evaluates unit leaders (team, squad, platoon, company level, or equivalent)
- Participates in the Corps of Cadets cadet promotion process.
- Monitors all aspects of corps life in a company to ensure an environment that fosters academic achievement and professional development, including military drill, training, customs and courtesies, Honor Code administration, company intramurals, cadet leader mentorship, counseling, and performance evaluation.
- Reports allegations of serious student misconduct to appropriate university authorities.
- Conducts or supervises company-level investigations to determine/advise appropriate disciplinary actions for allegations of cadet misconduct.
- Provides admissions information sessions detailing Corps life and leadership experience to prospective students and their families.
- Performs as barracks manager for residential cadets responsible for cadet housing, room key issue/control, data entry/reporting, room inventory/condition, maintenance requests, etc.
- Communicates as needed with parents and family members on matters relating to their student while complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Performs as Student Affairs Duty Officer (SADO) on a rotational basis in the evening and on weekends to ensure proper supervision and authority of an around-the-clock nature.
- May serve as an advisor/liaison to a cadet regimental staff section, Corps of Cadet's committee, or ROTC specialty unit/club.
- Wears the Vermont State Militia uniform throughout the period of employment.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
- Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
- Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
- Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
- Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
- Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree. Additional years of experience may substitute for degree.
- U.S. military veteran or extensive experience working with young adults.
- Experience developing and implementing training plans and providing class instruction in-person and virtually.
- Experience with military and flag protocol and teaching drill and ceremony.
- Experience in delivering developmental and performance counseling and mentorship.
- Experience with the administration of non-judicial punishment in a military environment.
- Experience working in higher education, administering, and supervising student programs, student conduct, and co-curricular aspects of student life.
- Must be able to relate to, work with, and be approachable by college students seeking an academic degree foremost who desire to lead and serve in the military, government, or civilian sectors.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) required.
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
- Able to wear a military uniform in conformance to Army Regulation 670-1 standards.
- Work some early morning, evening, and weekend hours, and be on-call throughout the night when acting as Student Affairs Duty Officer.
- Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work for training.
- High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes when outdoors.
