Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County.

We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront "free clinic," and with the ever-growing need for health services, in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC).

Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.


Under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the
Custodian provides basic custodial and facility maintenance services to the medical clinic and office sites.

The Custodian ensures the cleanliness of Salud Para La Gente's clinics and office sites.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Maintains a neat, dustfree, and hygienic clinic including daily cleaning of all surfaces, floors, carpets, walls, vents, etc., in every room, including mopping floors, sterilizing countertops, cleaning door glass, mirrors, door jambs and walls
  • Cleans and maintains all restrooms and maintains supplies of paper towels and toilet paper. Notes condition of restroom and reports to supervisor broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains and other conditions requiring maintenance.
  • Maintains office sites including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and cleaning kitchens, carpets, floors and countertops.
  • Regularly stocks and replaces maintenance and janitorial items as necessary (i.e. light bulbs, janitorial supplies, in all clinic and office sites.
  • Periodically moves heavy items, which cannot be reached on a daily basis, to mop or dust.
  • Empties trash in all clinics and office sites; properly disposes of trash and garbage and transports items to dump as directed. Follows Salud recycling and hazardous/medical waste disposal policies.
  • Applies proper safety practices and toxic materials handling procedures at all times.
  • Applies proper aseptic cleaning procedures and infection control as required.
  • Organizes and maintains storage areas.
  • Makes minor repairs to fixtures, buildings, and equipment, such as minor wall repairs, touch up painting, installing shelves. Reports the need for additional work or maintenance to supervisor.
  • Follows lockup procedures at each site with complete dependability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARD
Knowledge of:

basic janitorial practices, use of floor buffer and carpet extractor, minor repair techniques, sanitation, infection control, proper practices related to handling of toxic matter and general safety procedures.

Ability to:

Perform heavy manual labor which includes moving furniture and equipment, and lifting items such as garbage cans and supplies; perform tasks which require manual dexterity, such as minor repairs, and operating and maintaining custodial equipment; perform tasks which require coordination and balance such as washing windows while standing on ladders, changing light bulbs while standing on ladders; work responsibly and independently; maintain strict confidentiality; organize tasks and work efficiently; communicate effectively and respectfully with people from different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and lifestyles, demonstrating a knowledge and sensitivity to their needs; develop and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, clients, other agency representatives, and the public.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have own vehicle, valid driver's license and insurance
  • Basic carpentry and repair experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching outwards and above shoulders, bending at neck and waist, twisting, pushing, pulling, moving, lifting and/or carrying up to 60 pounds without assistance; stooping; kneeling, gripping and grasping.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range:

$17.65 to $21.87 per hour

Time Off Benefit:

CA Sick Pay, accrued per hours worked
