    STATUS: Full Time

    REPORTS TO: Vice President, Human Resources

    LOCATION: Washington, DC

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Reporting to and working closely with the Vice President, Human Resources, the Director, Human Resources actively participates in the development of overall human resources strategy, the administration of human resources policies, programs and practices related to employment, compensation, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, benefits, performance management, employee relations, recruiting and retention, and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws. The work involved includes performing various tasks requiring a substantive understanding of general and internal human resource policies, procedures and laws, with a strong focus on benefits. The Director will also support the Vice President with frequent special projects and will assume responsibilities in the Vice Presidents absence as directed. The incumbent must display strong interpersonal skills and be able to handle sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality at all times. The Director deals with internal contacts at all levels of the organization and they will continually demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Works with the Vice President as an advisor on employee relations issues, legal trends and all other matters related to the human resources field with a strong focus on benefits.

    Provide oversight for all aspects of the Foundations benefits program to include annual review of benefits plans for cost effectiveness.

    Review and analyze the benefits market to determine employee needs, trends, regulations and practices, and develops competitive programs and services to meet Foundation goals.

    Prepares and distributes written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits programs such as insurance plans, 403(b), life and other employer-sponsored plans and plan and provide oversight for the Foundations open enrollment period.

    Provide oversight of the Foundations 403(b), 457(b) and (f) retirement plans. Working with external auditor, oversee annual audit of 403(b) retirement plan and provide oversight for filing of 5500 report.

    Assist the Vice President with the development and implementation of training and development for staff to include November All Hands Gathering, supervisory training, and compliance training among other topics.

    Acts as advisor and subject matter expert to staff and responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.

    Serves as an internal consultant to staff on specific human resources problems and informs the Vice President on critical or sensitive business or team/people concerns.

    Administers various human resources plans and procedures for Foundation personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; assists in the maintenance of employee handbook and prepares and maintains HR policies and procedures manual.

    Working with the Vice President, continually assess the competitiveness of all personnel programs and practices against relevant comparable companies, industries and markets.

    Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.

    SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)

    Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience and at least ten years progressively responsible experience in multiple Human Resource functions. Human Resources Certification preferred.

    Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proven dispute resolution skills.

    Demonstrated ability to apply HR knowledge to resolve complex business challenges.

    Kind, compassionate and leads with confidence, honesty and integrity.

    Ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline.

    Very strong attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread.

    Creative and innovative outlook with a problem-solving attitude.

    Excellent time management, organizational, and follow-through skills.

    Able to respond quickly and accurately to requests for information, ability to provide excellent customer service a must.

    Ability to manage multiple projects independently and simultaneously.

    Flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.

    Strong analytical skills.

    Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and payroll, ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.
