The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Technology Associate located in OSPR's Headquarters office located in West Sacramento.


Under the general supervision of the OSPR Information Technology Support Unit Supervisor, the Information Technology Associate will perform a variety of recurring, well-defined tasks requiring occasional innovative problem-solving within guidelines.

The incumbent will act as the primary contact for the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) to resolve IT issues.


The incumbent will provide first level support and assistance to resolve a variety of customer computer problems for both hardware and approved software via the telephone and other remote assistance technologies.

Tickets must be created for all incidents and requests; either requiring escalation or if substantial amount of time was put into the issue.

Perform customer technology problem resolution and service delivery activities. The Information Technology Associate will provide Level 1 and Level 2 support for client technology environment. Monitor and resolve problem tickets. Assist other IT Technicians and OSPR Support Unit technical operational areas in completion of service requests and problem resolutions.

This may include but is not limited to the installation and maintenance of all local IT related equipment and software, computer and peripheral repair, the recovery of local data and to maintain data integrity and backups.

Working Conditions

Ability to work at a desk using a computer keyboard several hours a day. Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing. This position will be headquartered in the West Sacramento OSPR offices. The incumbent will attend meetings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Alternate Workweek Schedules may be allowed if deemed compatible with branch objectives. Occasional travel is required within the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.). Travel may include overnight stay.

Must be able to deploy with short notice for extended periods (up to 7 days) that will include overnight stay.

OSPR is a 24-hour oil and pollution spill response organization.

The incumbent in this position can be required to participate in prevention and response training, drills and incidents throughout California, and to be available to deploy/travel with short notice for extended periods (up to 7 days).
