Description
The Personnel Services Branch (PSB) provides human resources support to all CDFW employees.

Staff in the Payroll and Personnel Section are responsible for performing tasks associated with appointments, separations, payroll, and leave accounting in compliance with California labor laws and regulations, bargaining unit contracts, departmental policies and procedures, and control agency directives.


PSB is looking for independent and innovative leaders to serve as one of our Payroll and Personnel Unit Managers This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing staff to provide a high level of customer service in the administration of payroll, leave accounting, appointments, and separations for the department.

This position will also work closely with managers in other Payroll and Personnel Units, the Benefits and Disability Unit, and Classification and Recruitment Units to ensure all human resources practices and procedures are adhered to.

The position also develops and/or revises departmental procedures and training programs to ensure compliance with civil service laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Memorandum of Understandings (MOU); and personally handles the most sensitive complex projects.

The incumbent is required to provide an excellent level of customer service to all CDFW employees at all times. This position is headquartered in our brand new state of the art high-rise building located in downtown Sacramento.

This position is designated as remote-centered and currently works 2 days per week in the office, and as needed as work assignments require additional time in the office.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting, with artificial light and temperature control. The ability to use a personal computer and telephone is essential. The position requires bending and stooping to retrieve files; walking; occasional light lifting, up to lbs. Occasional travel may be required.


This position is designated as remote-centered and the incumbent will telework an average of three days per week and report to the office two days per week.

Additional office days will be required periodically for training and team building events.
