- Evaluate specifications, drawings, scope documents, and other bid package information to ensure comprehensive understanding for accurate and competitive estimates.
- Identify and quantify project risks; collaborate with project development team to address and mitigate risks effectively.
- Participate in pre-proposal site visits and meetings with potential clients to gather information, analyze site-specific factors, and ensure thorough estimates.
- Develop understanding of scopes of work provided with requests for proposals and change orders.
- Develop complete take-offs to itemize quantities and types of materials and components, and acquire accurate cost information from vendors and suppliers.
- Determine man-hour, tool, and construction equipment requirements along with respective costs.
- Solicit and evaluate proposals for required services from subcontractors and other specialty providers, ensuring bids are accurate and timely.
- Review project plans and construction documents to determine materials and labor pricing.
- Communicate with purchasers, materials suppliers, and subcontractors to accurately determine project costs.
- Manage project bid schedule with strict adherence to project deadlines.
- Evaluate bid opportunities and effectively communicate details to other estimators and project teams.
- Collaborate with the estimating team, project managers, and upper management to review bid proposals concisely.
- Pursue and evaluate new clients and bid opportunities with potential for future business partnerships.
- Maintain strong client relationships to drive sales in all areas of the Company.
- Clearly communicate project requirements and proposal expectations with project management team and ensure project goals are clearly understood.
- Promote a safe work environment and culture by implementing Company Fundamentals, Safety Program, and Quality Control Program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy/civil/site work estimating experience.
- Knowledgeable regarding all aspects of site work.
- Sales and negotiating skills.
- Experience reading blueprints and performing accurate supply and material take-offs.
- Familiarity with DOT requirements.
- Strong personal character and integrity, with a heart for teamwork and excellence.
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
- Proficient in the use of HeavyBid (preferred)
- Able to develop and maintain client relationships.
- Ability to work independently 45-55 hours per week.
