Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in a court collections program; performs related work as assigned.


Typical Duties:

- (Illustrative Only)
  • Performs financial investigations and verifies defendants' assets
  • Effects collections of courtimposed fines, fees, and restitutions
  • Initiates contact with defendants to demand payment/establish payment plans
  • Prepares statistical reports
  • Prepares and verifies financial data


Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: walking; sitting; lifting and carrying (1-50 lbs) of files supplies and mail; pushing/pulling carts, doors, filing cabinets (1-50 lbs); climbing stairs; working with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder) for telephone, typing filing etc.

; vision acuity (near and far) for writing, typing and dealing with staff and the public; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity for typing, writing, filing etc


Minimum Qualifications:


Three years' experience in public/private collections, OR; any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in providing customer service; Court experience; Experience with AJACS or a case automation system.

This position is non-exempt from overtime.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Considerable knowledge of:
  • Methods and techniques used to affect collections
  • Effective interviewing practices and techniques
  • Court procedures and legal documents
  • Criminal and civil laws relating to collections
  • Standard office practices
  • Skill in:
  • Preparing and analyzing financial information
  • Using computers and Microsoft Suite software
  • Interviewing reluctant and/or difficult clients
  • Ability to:
  • Work independently
  • Prepare and maintain complex reports and records
  • Analyze clients' circumstances and recommend appropriate actions
  • Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, attorneys, other agencies, and the public
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
