    Coordinator of School Psychological Services

    Purpose


    The Coordinator of School Psychological Services serves as the Lead Psychologist for the District, providing leadership and coordinating school psychological services in partnership with schools and the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

    The coordinator works in collaboration with all psychologists to ensure compliance of evaluations and monitors the work responsibilities and procedural guidelines of school and contracted psychologists.

    Qualifications

    Required


    • Master's degree in School Psychology.
    • Current Arizona Department of Education School Psychology certification
    • Four (4) or more years of experience as a school psychologist.
    • Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint
    Clearance Card.

    Preferred


    • Supervisory experience
    • AZ licensed psychologist
    • Doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related field.
    • Bilingual
    Essential Functions


    • Lead, manage, monitor and support psychological services across the District, to include developing, supporting and mentoring a team of school psychologists, interns and practicum students.
    • Coordinate the organization and operation of school psychological services, in collaboration with administrators, school psychologists, school and district staff, local agencies, families and the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
    • Oversee district procedures and practices regarding psychoeducational evaluations, including determining evaluation instrument needs, maintaining an adequate supply of instruments and protocols, reviewing reports for compliance with state and federal rules and guidelines, and assuring that best practices in evaluations are followed.
    • Provide ongoing training, support, consultation, and guidance to school psychologists to ensure the overall effectiveness of school psychological services. Assist with pre-service training to new Exceptional Student Services staff as well as ongoing training with all Exceptional Student Services personnel.
    • Provide consultation and support with decision making for students referred to a more restrictive environment within the district's programs, along with the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
    • Develop and maintain effective information systems pertaining to student records, communication, training, and other data required for federal or state reports.
    • Oversee students attending private day school settings, including participating in IEP and MET meetings and conducting evaluations, monitoring progress and readiness to exit private day school settings and extended school year.
    • Attend district department meetings and assist with planning and facilitating monthly psychologist meetings.
    • Oversee students attending residential treatment centers as well as those at Foundation for Blind Children and the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf through the state voucher system, including participating in annual IEP meetings, conducting evaluations, and completing Home School District Voucher Applications and annual renewals, if applicable.
    • Attend high profile meetings if requested by coordinators or Director.
    • Provide guidance and support to psychologist completing manifestation determinations, 504 evaluations, and threat assessments.
    • Participates with district Threat Assessment Team to provide training to administrators, classified and certified staff on Threat Assessment procedures.
    • Completes compliance checks on METS, ensure timeliness are met and regularly distribute relevant eIEPpro reports.
    • Participates in recruiting, interviewing, orientation, and other ESS department activities.
    • Collaborate with Counselor Coordinator on professional development and district needs.
    • Helps coordinate or provide ongoing professional development for general education staff and administration on relevant topics.
    • Facilitate excellent customer service for students, parents, families, and school personnel.
    • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities


    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.

    Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include plan and coordinate projects, including implementation of collaboratively designed intervention plans and schedules, utilize pertinent software applications, including the special education records management software system.


    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, utilize appropriate grammar and punctuation; facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

    Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include understanding pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or various position specific information learned on the job.


    ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment.

    Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.

    Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school and central office-based staff and parents by demonstrating excellent human relations skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.

    In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Ability to collect data and generate reports is required. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.

    Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work environment; working as part of a team; communicate with diverse groups.

    The ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned is required.

    Responsibility

    The coordinator of school psychological services provides oversight and leadership to school psychologists. Facilitates, trains, coaches, and supervises district and school staff through the psychological services/programs' development and implementation process.


    Work Environment:


    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

    Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. The employee will regularly work indoors. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Travel between District campuses and to locations outside the District is required.
