OIG has Six Divisions: Division of Regulated Child Care, Division of Health Care, Division ofAudits and Investigations, Certificate of Need, Division of Telehealth Services, and the Division of KentuckyHealth Information Exchange. These Divisions cover a wide variety of job tasks and duties in varied settingsthroughout Kentucky, which include inspecting and licensing childcare and healthcare facilities and services,conducting investigations of complaints in those facilities, conducting Medicaid fraud and other types ofcomplaints for the Cabinet. OIG is also responsible for managing Kentucky's Health Information Exchange,which is the technical infrastructure or network that enables doctors, hospital staff, and other healthcareproviders to electronically share patient health information so that providers are more quickly informed andhave access to a patient's comprehensive health history.

    The Social Services Specialist position evaluates and monitors social service programs within Long Term Carefacilities. Member of survey team for certification, re-licensure, and complaint investigations medicallyrelated to social services and resident rights. The Social Services Specialist prepares comprehensive reportsand packets in accordance with the State and Federal Regulations, determines compliance through interpretationof regulations, and follows Division and Regional guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    This position does require extensive in-state travel, overtime, weekend work, and overnight stays depending onthe type of survey and the location of the facility being inspected. It also requires the physical ability andenergy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys/inspections.Applicants from the following counties are urged to apply.     Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Serves as a professional surveyor/inspector who inspects and investigates within long term care facilities for compliance and violations using Federal and State Regulations.
  • Performs as a member for a survey team for certification, re-licensure, complaint investigations on medically related social services and resident rights.
  • Serves as a member of a survey team which inspects for licensing and complaints of health care facilities within the Western Enforcement Branch Region
  • Determines compliance through interpretations of Federal and State regulations and following Division/Regional guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and submits complete and correct packets and paperwork timely.
  • Provides consultation, technical assistance, and interpretations to providers.
  • Participates and attends training programs, conferences, and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys/inspections.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of professional social work experience.
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree supplemented by five years of professional social work experience will substitute for the primary education and experience requirements.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): If employed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services or the Department of Juvenile Justice, an employee in this job classification must furnish to the appointing authority within one month of employment documentation that he/she possesses a valid driver's license. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
