    Summary

    This position will focus on constructively developing and communicating key company positions across government agencies, industry organizations and related stakeholders while also engaging in strategies in support of the company's business global interests.

    It will also lead the company's government relations communication strategy that focuses on both internal and external communications to create a coherent message across platforms.


    The Company's government relations and policy programs seek to sustain a dialogue with government authorities that promotes sound public policies and addresses emerging regulatory, policy and legislative issues.

    The Company is committed to playing an active and constructive role in the ongoing development of public policies, the high technology community, energy and transportation systems, and society at large.

    Responsibilities
    Identify, establish and maintain key government relationships that are critical to the growth of the Company's business

    Support the Company's public policy objectives, advance messaging, and identify policy issues and trends that are likely to impact the Company and industry in the trade, rail, energy, technology, and geopolitical space

    Represent the Company externally before the U.S. federal and state government officials, intergovernmental institutions, industry associations and other professional organizations to identify and positively shape positions

    Manage relationships and represent Hitachi at trade association meetings and events

    Direct work of outside consultants as required

    Work in a team-oriented environment to promote understanding of the Company's innovative approach to business and of its business model, the specific challenges and opportunities faced, and possible policy-oriented actions by governments

    Proactively lead the analysis and monitoring of policy, legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Company's business interests

    Provide clear and concise advice on regulatory developments and policy issues related to the Company as well as lead responses to regulatory comment processes

    Work with internal clients in support of the Company's different business divisions and to assess opportunities/challenges relating to legal, regulatory and policy issues

    Direct the communications staff on message development for external audiences to enhance the awareness of Hitachi among government officials at the state and federal levels

    Supervise the development of internal messages to business unit stakeholders to communicate strategy of the government relations team

    Qualifications/Requirements
    Minimum 10+ years of public policy and/or government affairs experience. Interacting with congressional or executive staff as well as lobbying for a company or association is preferred

    Proven experience with direct lobbying and ability to conceive and execute policy campaigns at the state and federal levels

    Familiarity with emerging technology public policy trends in the areas of AI, cybersecurity, privacy, antitrust/competition, and/or policy trends in the transportation/mobility sector

    The ability to articulate complex regulatory and policy matters into easily understood language

    Adept ability to work with other industry representatives to build coalitions and form strategic relationships

    A keen understanding of policy and legislative processes and dynamics within the U.S. Government and Congress, as well as familiarity with state government relations activities

    An ownership mindset of the relevant area(s) of subject matter expertise

    Capable of building strong relationships cross functionally at all levels across Hitachi Business Units
