The Wisconsin DNR has two "dual" LTE (Limited Term Employee) positions available in our Madison, Wisconsin office:

Position Summary:


Aquatic Invasive Species Program Associate/ Operations Program Associate

  • This position will provide statewide assistance supporting the aquatic invasive species (AIS) and aquatic plant management (APM) programs, including organizing workgroups, writing reports, creating outreach materials, and assisting with managing the AIS Research and Demonstration Grants program.
  • 50% Program Development & Support Organize and help facilitate program meetings, workgroups, and teams related to AIS and APM research activities and policy development.
  • Work with staff and partners to identify and prioritize statewide AIS research needs.
  • Assist in managing and promoting the Department's AIS Research and Demonstration Grant program.
  • Work to publicize the Department's AIS research checkoff fund.
  • Review and update AIS and APM monitoring and guidance documents.


50% Outreach & Communication- Create factsheets and revise webpages to reflect current scientific research findings and best management practices for AIS control and prevention.


  • Collaborate with staff and partners on ways to improve AIS messaging.
  • Compile, summarize, and disseminate AIS and APM research findings for newsletters, presentations, etc.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information and data from staff, partners and the public on the science of aquatic plant and AIS management.

Aquatic Invasive Species Research Assistant/ Water Resources Management Specialist

  • This position will provide statewide assistance supporting aquatic invasive species (AIS) and invasive aquatic plant management (APM) research activities.
  • 60% Conduct fieldbased AIS monitoring and research projects Compile the AIS and APM program's field data needs and available resources and develop a work schedule to complete priority surveys.
  • Coordinate equipment and travel for central office field crew and coordinate with District staff and partners to the extent practical to maximize coverage.
  • Conduct aquatic plant point intercept (PI) surveys and other field studies to understand the life cycles and response of invasive plants to various prevention and control methods.
  • Assist and provide technical support to staff and partners conducting aquatic invasive plant surveys and management.
  • Participate in other AIS field monitoring and response activities around the state as needed.


40% Data Management & Reporting- Assist with entry, quality assurance, and management of data associated with aquatic plant PI surveys and APM evaluation efforts.


  • Compile and analyze data to understand APM management outcomes.
  • Aid in the development of best management practices for common AIS.
  • Create factsheets, summary documents, and scientific reports which communicate research findings to both a technical and nontechnical audience.

Salary Information:


These positions pay between $19.50-$19.75 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 02-11 and Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Limited Term Employment:
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position.

LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
