    Job Summary:

    We are looking for a solution-oriented, self-motivated /staff Accountant that will oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions. This includes assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, performing general ledger account and bank reconciliation, preparing journal entries and financial statements and creating and maintaining periodic reporting. This position requires excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Preparation of the Daily Cash Report
    • Management of Aged Accounts Receivable Report and related Invoices
    • Preparation of monthly Financial Reporting Packages
    • Preparation of monthly bank account reconciliations
    • Preparation of monthly invoices for retiree insurance premium payments
    • Maintenance of company expense report software, Concur, and related journal entries
    • Check batch printing
    • Deposit of checks into BMO account
    • Management of IMOS operations related to Accounts Receivable, Monthly Accruals, Posting Freight Invoices, Voyage Period Journals, and Voyage Bunker Summary
    • Working with Veson Nautical, Velosio, ABS Nautical Systems, and other companies to ensure smooth functioning of Accounting and Operations software
    • Preparation of the monthly Pension Funding Report
    • Trial Balance review and related Adjustment and Reclass Journal Entries preparation
    • Providing any additional review or research as needed within the Accounting Department
    • Preparation of month-end and year-end close journal entries related to accruals, payroll, running repairs, fuel bunker adjustments, MEBA union, and other items

    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
    • Strong computer skills with experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
    • Knowledge of financial analysis principles and concepts with strong analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to present data and analysis in an actionable format and influence executive management decisions that impact the business direction.
    • Ability to work effectively on project teams cultivating working relationships and producing time sensitive deliverables.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate results with senior level executives.
    • Experience with Great Plains and Dynamics SL accounting software helpful but not required.
