The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is a research institute located in Beaverton, OR and is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.

V. (FVB).

The FVB is made up of eight non-university research institutes in Berlin that are funded by the federal and state governments.

These research institutes are part of the Leibniz Association.


We are currently seeking a PhD student (f/m/d) to join our newly opened Weierstrass Group "Multi-species Balance Laws" (Head: Dr.

K. Hopf) as soon as possible (Ref. 23/27).

The field of work for this position is mathematical analysis and nonlinear partial differential equations.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in this field, with a focus on reaction-cross-diffusion systems or two-phase flow.

The research will involve studying wellposedness and qualitative behavior, or deriving singular limits and effective equations.


We are looking for a highly motivated and exceptional student with a master's degree in mathematics and a strong background in analysis and partial differential equations.

Prior knowledge in nonlinear parabolic and/or hyperbolic equations is desirable. The candidate should have completed or be close to completing their MSc degree.
