    Description

    At Fortis, the Payroll Specialist will be in charge of processing payroll for employees with precision and timeliness. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, compliance with regulations, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. The Payroll Specialist at Fortis is crucial for ensuring that employees are fairly compensated and paid on schedule.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Handle payroll transactions for all seven (7) Fortis entities in the U.S., ensuring accuracy and timeliness in processing salary adjustments, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
    • Manage payroll records and uphold data integrity by correctly inputting and updating employee details in the system.
    • Check timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies with employees or supervisors.
    • Compute and manage payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local deductions, as well as Social Security and Medicare contributions.
    • Distribute paychecks or electronic deposits to employees on scheduled pay dates.
    • Address employee inquiries promptly regarding payroll matters like pay discrepancies, tax forms, and policies.
    • Aid in preparing and submitting payroll reports, such as quarterly and annual tax filings, as mandated by governing bodies.
    • Stay informed on updates in payroll regulations and compliance standards to ensure precise processing and legal conformity.
    • Collaborate with HR and finance departments to settle payroll-related issues and enhance payroll procedures.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of payroll data and adhere to data protection regulations.

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in accounting, finance, or related field is preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in payroll administration, with a solid grasp of payroll principles, practices, and regulations.
    • Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now payroll software and MS Office applications, especially Excel.
    • Strong numerical skills and keen attention to detail.
    • Effective organizational and time management abilities to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with employees across all levels.
    • Capability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to independently or collaboratively resolve issues.
    • Preferably, knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
    • A certification in payroll administration (e.g., CPP) is advantageous.
