The Job
In collaboration with and under the direction of the Manager of Programming, the Programs Specialist is responsible for the creation, support and execution of Mia's onsite and offsite content, programs, and events for multigenerational audiences. They are also responsible for collaborating with the Learning & Programming team, engaging external partners, executing tasks, and ensuring deliverables and initiatives are delivered on schedule.
In this role, you will....
1. Develop and execute events and programs for multigenerational audiences, making sure programmatic themes and elements are in line with strategic goals and initiatives and support the permanent collection and special exhibitions.
Increase audience engagement via a wide variety of programming that addresses the broad range of the museum's collections and exhibitions and promote access and equitable participation.
Develop relationships with community stakeholders and organizations to co-create programs, to advance the quality, reach, impact, relevance, and variety of programming.
Effectively work with event and program partners, new and ongoing (e.g. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and YMCA).
Create guidelines for and co-create projects with artists, musicians, performers, and instructors for events to directly tie their expertise to the collection and exhibitions. Begin contracts for Manager to review.
Coordinate all aspects of programs including working with the Events and Visitor Experience teams on the logistical implementation of large-scale programs.
Responsible for being the onsite coordinator and staffing events and programs.
Oversee work of program activity assistants.
Propose, track and balance budget for programs and events.
Work with the Advancement department to support funding initiatives.
Work with DEI division on community partnerships.
2. Communications
Collaborate with Communications team to promote programs and events in e-newsletters, website, and social media. Write copy, arrange for editing, design, and printing of all promotion.
Produce event overviews for internal distribution.
3. Active member of Learning & Programming team
Collaborate with Learning & Programming colleagues on other programs.
Research trends in museum education, youth & family programming, adult programming, and audience and audience profiles and needs.
Represent Mia by sharing learning with colleagues across institutions and submitting conference proposals.
4. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Specific Requirements
BA in art/museum education or demonstrated equivalent experience required.
Knowledge of a broad range of periods and styles of art and culture, and museum educational methods and gallery teaching practices.
Minimum three years of related work experience with multigenerational audiences, within a museum setting is a plus.
Experience building relationships and collaborative programming.
Skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and project-management software (Asana preferred) and knowledge of virtual-learning capabilities.
Proficiency in languages other than English desirable.
Other Requirements:
Work onsite at Mia (no remote).
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
Occasionally required to lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs. as part of event setup and breakdown.
Occasionally required to move and position art materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
Stamina to stand for extended periods during events and handle physically demanding tasks.
