    Description
    A D.C. Law Firm is seeking an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for all aspects of accounting operations at the firm.

    The Accounting Manager works closely with the Executive Director ensuring all firm accounts are managed and accurate and with the accounting team ensuring best practices are assessed, executed and maintained.

    The Staff Accountant will work full-time on a regular schedule during standard firm business hours. The firm is allowing a hybrid work environment - with 2-3 days in-office. The ability to work remotely is subject to change based on the needs of the firm.

    This position is eligible for all benefits, as described in the Firm manual, available to exempt support staff, working 25 or more hours, including subsidized health insurance, dental insurance, paid time off, short- and long-term disability insurance, basic life insurance, 401k, and profit sharing.

    Law firm experience is required.

    General Ledger and Routine ReportingEnsure that all balance sheet and targeted income statement accounts are analyzed and reconciled monthly on a timely basis - includes payroll, fixed assets, and related tax accountsPrepare monthly account reconciliations of all cash and trust accountsPrepare and enters routine journal entriesPrepare and enter adjusting journal entries as necessary, maintaining appropriate documentationMaintain general ledger accounts for accuracy and compliance, update and create appropriate general ledger accountsGenerate monthly and year-end financial statements and management reports, analyzes variances and reviews them with Executive Director promptly after closingEnsure month-end and year-end closing are conducted accurately and timelyPrepare weekly cash reportsAccounts Receivable, Payable and BillingRoutinely review unallocated and suspense account balances and work with accounting team and attorneys to resolveReview, reconcile and processes payment for employee expense reportsSupervise processing of vendor invoicesReview all accounts regularly to ensure accuracyAssist with client collectionsTaxes and Government ReportingAssist in the preparation of annual tax work papers and coordinates tax work with outside accounting firmWork with outside accountants to make estimated payments on a timely basisAssist with the preparation and filing of other taxes: DC Personal Property Tax; DC Sales and Use Tax; DC Ballpark Tax; 1099's; etc.

    Assist in government reporting as neededManage the various state nexus requirements and coordinates tax payments with outside accountants.
    Maintain a close working relationship with outside accountants and responds in a timely manner to all tax related projects.
    Maintain the firm tax filings.

    BudgetingPrepare and monitor annual budgetAnalyze budget anomalies and work with Executive Director on adjustmentsAdvise Executive Director on special budgeting projects (e.g., construction, purchases, etc...)PayrollWork with payroll company to ensure GL is accurate and updatedPrepare year-end payroll transfers including wire set-up for year-end bonus payrollsBenefitsManage payment of benefits on a monthly basisOther DutiesPerform basic bookkeeping for the Firm's PAC and prepare monthly FEC 3X and Bi-annual LD-203Maintain accounting records for the Firm's non-profit (create bills, record billings, receipts and disbursements, prepare tax materials to send to tax accountants, follow up with overdue AR, etc.)Positive pay management, bank account management, and trial balance reviewCreation of new employee accounts and training of new hires on timekeeping and accounting policiesMonitor internal controls and report inconsistencies with accounting policies and procedures to the Executive DirectorManage daily and monthly accounting activities to include, but not limited to, the department calendar, time entry, billing and incoming departmental emailsAssist with special requests, post cash, and monitor collectionsMonitor bank activity including annual renewal of Letter of Credit and Line of Credit, money market account and make recommendations to Executive Director for various funding vehiclesDevelop and implement appropriate strategies to enhance accounting processes and proceduresDevelop and maintain relationship with banking representativesManage access of the various accounts for the accounting staff after conferring with Executive DirectorManage the time and billing software programs and provide recommendations for improvements to the Executive DirectorMaintain a daily cash report including the year-end projection summaryPrepare annual reviews of accounting staffParticipate in all Administrative Team meetings, meetings with accountants and other firm-related meetings requiring accounting inputAttend quarterly CEO Roundtable sessions hosted by BakerTillyKeep Executive Director updated on changes impacting firm finances (e.g., new DC laws, updates to state nexus, changes to tax rules, etc.)


    Manage various state registered agents and respond to inquiries as requestedManage and complete vendor/client requests for informationAssist Executive Director with completing annual insurance policy renewalsWork closely with Billing Supervisor to ensure accounting accuracyJob Requirements:

    Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related field required5+ years law accounting experience,

    Law firm experience is requiredExperience with law firm accounting preferredMust be proficient in use of Excel at the intermediate or advanced level
