    JOB SUMMARY:

    Assist in all activities associated with International Customs Compliance for import shipments in the coordination of documentation required by US Customs and other government agencies.

    PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain personnel on new product launches to ensure the proper applications of HTS codes to new material.
  • Conduct daily audits of 3rd Party Broker entries to ensure import compliance and implement improvement projects where needed.
  • Liaise with suppliers, plants, and brokers to immediately resolve issues and questions related to customs.
  • Develop procedures, training modules and assessment programs to identify compliance gaps, develop solutions and coordinate improvement implementation.
  • Maintain and keep current all shipment documentation in compliance with all record keeping requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of customs regulatory rulings including AD/CVD cases.
  • Develop, manage, and audit internal control programs, manual, and procedures for import and export compliance.
  • Daily audit and approval of PPQ 505/Lacey Act declarations.
  • Invoice processing of PMS (Periodic Monthly Statements) to ensure timely payments to CBP.
  • Assist with monthly international financial accrual.
  • Research past binding rulings and provide technical assistance in interpretation of harmonized tariff codes, country of origin, etc.
  • Processing large data sets using Microsoft Excel, identifying abnormalities, challenges or other areas of attention.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with all logistics service providers, including international freight forwarders and Customs Brokers.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Finance/Accounting, etc. or Certified Customs Specialist.
  • 3+ years of "hands-on" cross-border working experience for an importer.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional business teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated successful capability to resolve conflict over sensitive or complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently, drive continuous improvements, and manage projects to completion.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Experience working in or with a manufacturing industry such as office furniture or cabinet manufacturing.
  • Experience coordinating and participating in import/export audits.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of international trade regulations with a special focus on customs regulations.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting for Extended Periods: The nature of the job involves sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods while performing administrative tasks, using a computer, and engaging in various in-office activities.
  • Computer Use: Proficient use of a computer, including typing, mouse manipulation, and viewing a computer screen for extended periods is essential.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use office equipment such as phones, photocopiers, fax machines, and printers. This may require fine motor skills and dexterity.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of office supplies, documents, and other materials, typically not exceeding a certain weight limit (e.g., 20 pounds).
  • Mobility: Ability to move within the office environment to access filing cabinets, printers, and other office equipment.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders directly in person or via electronic communication.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to read printed and electronic documents, as well as distinguish colors, for tasks such as proofreading and reviewing documents.
  • Multitasking: The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work effectively, which may require mental agility and adaptability.
