    Senior Manufacturing Design Engineer - Savannah, United States - Savannah River Nuclear Solutions

    What You'll Do in This PositionScope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals.

    Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

    Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.

    Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems.

    Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
    Responsible for creating, maintaining, and assembling tooling and fixturing for the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF).
    • Use of 3D CAD tools such as CREO Parametric or Solidworks for creating designs and manufacturing drawings.
    • Use of hand tools such as screw drivers, drills, and wrenches for assembling or modifying custom tools and fixtures.
    Other QualificationsAbility to work independently on design, drawings, and assembly/testing of custom tools or fixtures with little supervision.
    Ability to lift <35lbs on occasion in a shop setting.
    Ability to create manufacturing drawings using basic drafting techniquesMust have demonstratable experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, or machining.

    Qualifications We DesireMaster or PhD degree in applicable science or engineering disciplineUnderstands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniquesWorking knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applicationsExperiences with CREO version 8 or 10Experience with advanced drafting techniques.

    Experience with Windchill 11.1 or laterExperience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5 and Y14.43Experience with CREO, solidworks, or Mastercam NC software.

    Experience with additive manufacturing.
