    Description

    The Associate is a key member of the Investment Team for Grounded Capital supporting execution of our investment strategy. The Associate works as part of a small team to develop strategies, build relationships, and manage investments across various holdings. We are seeking an individual with strong financial and analytical modelling skills, strategic insight, industry experience, and intellectual curiosity who is aligned with our values.

    As an Associate, you will play a pivotal role in the underwriting and management of investments, working collaboratively with colleagues. You will have the opportunity to work with investments along their entire lifecycle. You will be involved in sourcing, underwriting, and closing transactions; monitoring and managing real estate projects and investments through strategic shifts; and executing follow-on investments and exits. You also will help develop and articulate the firm's investment themes and strategies, in collaboration with other team members.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Support investment sourcing and business development including:

    • Conducting industry and sector research in development of thematic investment strategies.
    • Generating investment ideas in collaboration with team members.
    • Working with the team to develop and source off-market opportunities or pipeline.
    • Conducting outreach to investment prospects.
    • Identifying and cultivating other aligned organizations/intermediaries/partners.

    Work closely with a small team to assess, underwrite, and execute proprietary investment opportunities including:

    • Conducting financial analysis, property diligence, and analysis of investment structures and terms.
    • Analyzing social, sustainable, and financial impacts of a potential investment and opportunity.
    • Preparing investment documentation and due diligence materials that articulate an investment case and structure of potential investments.
    • Simultaneously managing activities related to several investments at different underwriting stages.

    Support post-investment portfolio monitoring and management including:

    • Communicating with management of portfolio companies, asset managers, and conducting site visits to understand progress towards strategic investment goals.
    • Completing regular investor reports, internal portfolio reviews, investment valuations, financial updates.
    • Maintaining investment information in the portfolio management system.
    • Conducting other quantitative or qualitative analysis of portfolio holdings.

    Special Projects:

    • Lead or support special projects typically related to strategy, portfolio planning, budgeting, communication, or impact assessment.

    Workplace arrangements

    This position reports to an Investment Principal, with no supervisory responsibility and is based in San Francisco with moderate travel for business (up to 25%). This role requires seated work at a desk; frequent use of telephones, computers, and audio/video equipment. Our office is conveniently located in San Francisco's financial district with easy access to public transportation. Our team is present in our San Francisco office Monday through Thursday with optional remote Fridays. We encourage in-office collaboration on Fridays when possible.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

It is critical the person joining Grounded Capital's team has exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate complex issues simply to a variety of audiences.

    • Understanding of capital markets, including debt and equity terms and valuation methodologies.
    • Experience with Asset Management of multiple asset types ideal (multi-family, office).
    • Experience in an institutional commercial real estate investment firm preferred.
    • Prior Private Equity or Private Multi-Family Office experience.
    • Strong financial and analytical modeling skills are required.
    • Advanced Excel skills and experience with Argus.
    • A team-player with maturity, integrity, and the ability to engage with senior counterparties.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet overlapping deadlines.
    • An active and engaged self-starter with a collaborative workstyle.
    • Prior experience in values-based investing is preferred; but, above all, Grounded Capital seeks to recruit an outstanding candidate who has a demonstrated passion not only for the real estate investment business, but also for the organization's mission to build the health of social, ecological, and financial systems.
    • Bachelor's degree with strong academic qualifications and 2+ years as Analyst at a finance, investment or consulting company, or MBA with strong academic qualifications and relevant experience.

    What We Offer

    The minimum base salary for this full-time position is $175,000, and all employees are eligible for annual and periodic performance-related bonuses.
