- Manages, trains, and develops Building Services staff to ensure all University facilities are cleaned effectively and efficiently according to University standards. Establishes and implements quality control procedures and corrective actions as needed.
- Provides exceptional customer service to the Bethel community through effective communication and coordination with key partners and stakeholders.
- Works closely with departmental leaders across the University, particularly the Conference and Event Services team, to support programmatic needs.
- Utilizes work request and event management systems for daily services, special events, and seasonal preventative maintenance.
- Manages selection and oversight of vendors and contractors, including materials and equipment suppliers, contract cleaners, and trash/recycling services.
- Coordinates with Director to prepare, review, and track annual operating budget for all staffing, contracted services, supplies and equipment, and Facilities custodial needs.
- Supports Facilities Management leadership team in planning and forecasting custodial and building needs.
- Maintains Facilities MSDS database in support of environmental health coordinator.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential; must be able to interact professionally and effectively with a wide variety of constituents, including faculty, staff, students, contractors, vendors, and leaders.
- Must have a working history which includes supervisory experience with an emphasis on team building with varied trade skills and experience levels.
- Knowledge of cleaning industry best practices is essential. Awareness of APPA standards and procedures is beneficial.
- Must possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to develop and utilize organizational tools and applications.
- Competence in the use of event management and work order systems, Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, Adobe Acrobat, and project software is essential.
- Experience in development and analysis of operating budgets is preferred, but not essential.
- Complies with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives.
- This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal work hours if needed to support emergency response, contingency operations such as snow removal or support of special events during evening and week-end assignments.
- Summer maintenance work presents unique demands on the department and vacation opportunities are normally limited during Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends due to graduation and welcome week events. Also, vacations are normally limited beginning the first full week of August through Labor Day due to the wrap-up of summer projects and preparation for the start of the school year.
- This is a 1.00 FTE, 12 month position.
- Works outside normal business hours as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Must be able to work in a sitting position at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to evaluate the exterior and interior cleanliness of buildings and inspect all types of custodial related or supported areas.

Job Summary
We anticipate closing this position to new applicants on May 17th.
Leads, develops, and supports supervisors to lead their teams in delivering a culture of excellent customer service in support of the broader University's programs, events, students, faculty, staff, and guests. Coordinates, prioritizes, and tracks the work activities of the Building Services team, vendors and contract cleaners. Manages and oversees the organization and execution of custodial services for all 1.4 million square feet of University facilities.
Responsibilities
- Leads and supports team supervisors in the development, review, prioritization, organization, tracking, and scheduling of daily custodial services, work requests, and event setups for the University.
Required Skills
Experience
2+ years of supervisory experience in custodial field. Demonstrated effective oversight of custodial teams, contractors, and vendors is essential. Understanding of and experience with supporting special events is essential. Prior experience managing multiple commercial buildings is preferred.
Education
High School Diploma Required.
Associate or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
