- Screens sick and injured students and administers minor first aid or offers assistance until care is available informing the parents as necessary, following district procedures.
- Sends notices to teachers and parents, prepares and maintains records/reports as necessary.
- Screens students for head lice and informs parents and staff regarding recommended parasite control measures.
- Informs parents and staff of available community health resources.
- Informs parents and students of hygiene requirements.
- Prepares lists of students needing various screenings for the District nurse.
- Maintains a log of students' visits to health office.
- Dispenses medication to students on request of the physician and the parent, assesses immunization requirements, and monitors compliance.
- Provides general nursing services to students with special needs; may assist with cleaning, toileting, and related care as needed. May require heavy lifting and activities involving carrying, pushing and/or pulling such as those utilized in positioning and moving students in and out of vehicular equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning staff, students and their families.
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record.
- Maintains a clean, orderly work station.
- Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.
- Provide specialized physical health care services, such as catheterization, tube feeding, etc., under the prescribed procedures as outlined in the Guidelines and Procedures by the California Department of Education (Green Book).

- Learn, interpret and communicate the goals, objectives, and the general provision of the program as related to job requirements; Work independently under directives.

- Ability to pass a standardized typing test at 35 net words per minute.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and stability required in minor and major first aid incidents.

- Ability to use a computer to keep student records and create working lists from the data base.
- Ability to effectively communicate about the school health program.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, administrators, families and public.
- Ability to provide basic nursing skills and administer care for the severely disabled child
- Ability to recognize health problems/concerns and communicate to the school nurse/principal.
- Provide accurate record keeping and filing.
- Manual dexterity and physical condition necessary to maintain a rigorous work schedule including bending, crouching and kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching in all directions and may be required to team lift/position student weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Moderate to high stress level.
- Abusive and potentially harmful outbursts from students; Possible contact with blood and other body fluids.
- May travel within the district to other sites to help provide coverage for absent and/or vacationing LVNs to provide services as required.
- Primarily indoor classroom and school environment.
- Temperature - normal climate.
- Tools/equipment/work aids - All body fluids shall be handled using universal precautions. Use pharmaceutical and sharp object disposal as prescribed.
