    The purpose of this position is to transform behavioral and mental health care within CCHMC and the Cincinnati community to ensure patients and their families receive the right level of care at the right time.

    CCHMC's behavioral and mental health care ecosystem ranges from integrated behavioral health in primary care and schools, a large outpatient footprint, acute mental and behavioral health crisis care, an established partial hospitalization program, and an existing 100 bed inpatient psychiatric hospital that is newly redesigned.

    Investments will be made to allow the Leader to realize the following goals:


    • Develop strategic, innovative models of care across the entire CCHMC mental and behavioral health systems
    • Build systems of behavioral and mental health care in collaboration with the Cincinnati Community that ensures all care providers are trained and deliver evidence-based care.
    • Reduce the need for inpatient psychiatric bed utilization by increasing access to behavioral and mental health early in the development of psychological/psychiatric disorders.
    • Develop efficient and effective processes to optimize inpatient psychiatric bed utilization through a combination of prevention, diversion, evidence based inpatient care, and appropriate discharge planning and execution.
    • Sustain an impactful portfolio of externally funded research in behavioral and mental health including innovative research in anxiety, depression, and mood disorders on both the patient and population level.
    • Advocate holistically to government and other officials on behalf of patients and CCHMC to advance the infrastructure necessary to optimize the behavioral and mental health of children and adolescents.
    • Assure equity in all aspects of Institute activities.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Evidence of experience in effecting mental health system level change
    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and evidence-based practice of behavioral interventions along with pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic (e.g., psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation) interventions for pediatric mental and behavioral health disorders
    • Understanding and experience in leading clinical, translational, and basic research programs and clinical fellowship programs
    • Demonstrated skill in collaborating with community organizations
    • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to plan, organize, administer, implement, and evaluate the interdisciplinary programs (education, service, research/demonstration, etc.) within the Mental Health Institute and Cincinnati Children's
    • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide variety of people
    • Demonstrated ability to teach at a university level, prepare grants, contracts, conduct research, and publish in refereed journals
    • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable best practices

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Leadership - Inspirational leader who will integrate mental/behavioral health care, research, education, innovation, community, and advocacy activities in ways that will transform care delivery and greatly advance quality of life outcomes, will identify and improve related preventative disease strategies and will greatly enhance patient and family satisfaction and value.


    • Achieves excellence in every element of her/his activities, including business and support functions. Provides impartial and visionary leadership by striking a proper balance of "Institute and Institution". Creates transparent internal decision-making systems that foster accountability and enables leaders to set priorities and monitor performance against key strategic and operational goals.
    • Develops an effective management team. Maintains a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top quality faculty, staff psychologists/physicians, and staff. Develops employees to their maximum potential, including use of effective personal growth/performance assessment systems. Recruits and directs an interdisciplinary staff of medical, psychiatric, psychological, and health related professionals. Ensures compliance with all Medical Staff Guidelines.
    • Works with CCHMC executive leadership, develops strategic plans for new clinical, research and translational programs directed at improving patient outcomes, and enhancing research and financial results while continuously monitoring and evaluating existing programs for improvement opportunities.
    • Active member of Health Delivery Committee


    Clinical Care - Leads mental health teams to advance the care of CCHMC patients through design, implementation, and evaluation of transformative care models to greatly advance patient outcomes.


    • Serves as a leading advocate for a multidisciplinary, team approach to the management of children with mental/behavioral health disorders. Promotes team interactions across Divisions, Patient Services and patients and their families to achieve best clinical and quality of life outcomes.
    • Determines the needs and develops the necessary programs or affiliations to offer family centered, community or school-based, coordinated, comprehensive, and culturally competent care.
    • Monitors and ensures clinical performance of staff. Accountable for faculty productivity, wellness, and organizational engagement.
    • Serves as the direct liaison to the CCHMC Executive Leadership team and the In-Chiefs to promote and share The Institute's success, while promoting the broader institutional success of CCHMC as a whole.
    • Ensures compliance with all medical center policies and applicable State and Federal regulations.
    Advocacy - Develops and leads an effective advocacy and community outreach program.


    • Serves as an effective and inspirational legislative and policy advocate on behalf of CCHMC.
    • Actively participates in and leads community involvement and programs. With representatives of relevant community and state agencies, studies community needs and reviews on a regular basis.


    Research - Leads the Institute's research program with innovative methods that generate new knowledge and are implemented into our care delivery system.


    • Discerns and leads ideal blends of basic, translational, outcomes and clinical research portfolios.
    • Enhances CCHMC's ability to successfully compete for extramural programmatic funding requiring integrated structures.
    • Recruits, develops, and retains research faculty within the Institute.
    • Oversees research quality and compliance initiatives.


    Education and Training - Leads the Institute in further growth of its premier training programs for CCHMC and the University of Cincinnati.


    • Provides supervision and review of mental and behavioral health education and training programs.
    • Assesses the quality of teaching by faculty, assuring professionalism.
    • In conjunction with the clinical fellowship training director and other key stakeholders is responsible for planning, developing, administering, and evaluating the interdisciplinary professional education programs.
    • Promotes continuing education programs for professionals, including hospital teaching rounds and lectures.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Recognized leader in his/her respective clinical or scientific field
    • Experience in leading improvement in clinical care at the systems level
    • Distinguished national and international reputation for clinical care, research, education, and outcomes excellence
    • M.D. degree from an accredited school of medicine or Ph.
    D. in clinical psychology from an APA approved graduate school

    • Ten years post- fellowship in Psychiatry or Psychology and at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
    • Open to individuals with training in child or adult behavioral or mental health
    • State of Ohio Medical or Psychology Board licensure
    • Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics or its equivalent (e.g. American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology); State of Ohio Medical or Psychology Board licensure
    • Experience should include working in an interdisciplinary setting, medical clinic facilities involving a culturally diverse population, university teaching, research, grantsmanship, and publications
