Job Description Summary
This is a leadership role within the Procurement department that buys/contracts all domestic modes: truckload, less than truckload, rail, intermodal, flatbed, freight forwarding, specialized, bulk, airfreight, parcel, and premium modes.
The candidate will manage all procurement functions from strategy to execution and tactical for finished goods, raw, ingredients and packaging materials with an estimated of spend of approx.
$300MM annually. Candidate will manage all aspects of purchasing for any of the various modes assigned to them as a leader. Responsible for setting strategy and direction. Manages all procurement processes, operations, conducting and analyzing bids, strategy development, and implementation.Job Description
Own all procurement related activities for a specific modes
Help set Strategy around mode buying, leveraging, developing key initiatives, best practices and processes within the team
Develop high level carrier relationships
Create solutions that meet service and cost
Strong ability to develop positive working relationships with carriers and other internal groups
Develop
and maintain key carrier and vendor relationships
o Set up and maintain necessary carrier Continuous Improvement Roadmaps
o Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews
Ensure a collaborative and partnering approach with business or category owners, as well as potential and current vendors
Account interaction
o Oversee account CIRs
o Ensure KPIs and key deliverables are met
o Gather stakeholder alignment and establish/maintain communication flow
o Gain a clear understanding of the Lamb Weston manufacturing/distribution
network, operations, carrier base, modes, strategies, and challenges
Lean Activity
o Facilitate Value Stream Mapping sessions
o CIR development
o Continuous Improvement
Escalation point for issues

Manage and mentor associates
o Provide leadership, direction, instruction, and assistance to assigned staff
o Set performance targets for staff and continually provide feedback regarding actual performance in comparison to targets
o Provide guidance to correct performance or behavioral concerns
Execute, Oversee, Lead with procurement functions
o Assist in conducting carrier bids, analyzing rates, making decisions on awards while remaining compliant with the overall sourcing strategy
o Utilize the RFQ and rate database
o Benchmark rates for new lanes for customer cost studies
Execute and manage Requests for Information, Requests for Quotes, Requests for Pricing, benchmarking, analytics, carrier selection, mitigation, and negotiation
Provide executive leadership updates on industry insights, trends, and governmental regulations
Must fully comprehend the technical aspects of contracting carriers, rate management and document storage
Understanding and ability to interface with Legal, IT, Operations, Engineering and Freight Pay
Qualifications / Requirements:
Candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of transportation (carrier) procurement experienceand be a motivated self-starter that can successfully work in a fast paced environment to support our organization in achieving goals and objectives.
Candidate should have:
Thorough understanding of the contracting process
Develop, guide, lead teams, both tactically and strategically
Experience using RFx Bid Tools, Jaggaer preferred
Experience using various TMS, SAP preferred
Strong leadership skills
Strong analytical skills
Strong organizational skills
Strong Interpersonal skills, as well as verbal & written
Self-starter, accountable, can stay focused with minimal oversight, ability to make decisions
Have a sense of urgency and know when to re-prioritize to meet demands
Ability to work independently and make decisions
Microsoft office skills, such as Excel
10-15% travel
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree in appropriate field preferred, but not required.
