Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Department Manager directs, plans, and manages the operations and resources of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This includes clinical and business operations as well as financial and human resources. This position will work closely with "Pod" managers in the O.R. in the development of service-specific teams to increase operational efficiency, patient safety, and staff morale.
The manager promotes the development of a motivated and cohesive team and supports educational strategies to enhance staff knowledge concerning processing practices and service delivery as well as growth and developmental opportunities.
The Manager will oversee sterile processing functions at Parnassus, Mount Zion, or Mission Bay and align operations with the Mission, Vision, and Values of UCSF Health, the organization's current goals, and work plan initiatives.
Active involvement with the O.R. Managers, Pod Managers, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Schedulers, and SPD Leadership as well as inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and the Infection Control Department to provide safe and efficient patient care, efficient instrument turnaround time, and regulatory compliance
Develop systems to ensure instrumentation is available for surgeries and that instruments are returned to SPD in optimal condition. Monitor services provided and collaborate in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency.
Applies managerial skills and technical experience to oversee sterile processing department operations. Determines optimal deployment of personnel and resources to achieve quality objectives. Ensures compliance with internal policy and external regulations.

Department Description
The Sterile Processing Departments at Mount Zion, Mission Bay, and Moffitt Long are departments that provide services for reprocessing instruments for surgical suites in which complex surgery is performed, clinics, and procedural areas.
Specialty instrumentation includes but is not limited to General surgery, GU, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Maxillofacial, Neurosurgery including stereotactic procedures, Cardiothoracic, Transplant, Orthopedic, Plastics, and ENT.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience years of progressive leadership/management in development and sterile processing
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an SPD tech in a clinical setting with specific knowledge of AAMI standards.
Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management and staff development. Ability to manage staff with diverse skills and expertise.Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal management including budget development.
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify problems and then determine and implement appropriate, effective solutions.
Ability to implement process improvement strategies and quality initiatives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with senior management and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience with procurement, supply chain management, financial & budget management
Proficient with MS Windows applications and surgery scheduling systems. Ability to produce presentations and comprehensive reports.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of sterile processing operations.
Knowledge of procurement and supply chain management.
License/Certification
CBSPD or IAHCSMM
