    Job Summary

    The Deputy Director for the UCSF/ZSFG Division of Citywide Case Management Programs ("Citywide") works in close partnership with, and under the direct supervision of, the Division Director to ensure the quality of care and efficient functioning of this intensive case management-focused behavioral health organization. Citywide is the largest Division in the Department of Psychiatry at ZSFG, and as such is the largest provider of intensive case management services in San Francisco, serving more than 2000 clients annually at high-risk of psychiatric decompensation, acute hospitalization, and institutionalization. This role is responsible for implementing the vision, strategy, and direction of the Division Director to delivery high-quality services to this vulnerable population.

    The Deputy Director will be responsible for all day to day operating activities, including:
    • developing and maintaining appropriate systems of care to ensure high quality service delivery;
    • developing, implements, and maintain clinic policies, procedures, and workflows;
    • integrating administrative, fiscal, and programmatic priorities, and providing leadership to fund development activities.
    Through strategic and operational planning, the Deputy Director will:
    • anticipate and implement needed changes in service delivery;
    • evaluate the impact of policy shifts and other external environmental changes;
    • ensure that the organizational structure, staffing and revenue prospects adequately support services, and that the division thrives in a competitive non-profit and managed care environment;
    • anticipate events that may affect short- and long-term planning processes;
    • and performs other duties, as assigned.

    Department Description

    The Division of Citywide Case Management Programs at UCSF/ZSFG, Department of Psychiatry has a primary location at 1263 Mission Street, San Francisco, in addition to other sites within San Francisco. The Division provides comprehensive outpatient treatment to those suffering from severe mental illness, often complicated by homelessness, chronic traumatization, institutionalization, substance use disorder and chronic medical conditions. The mission of the Division is to help clients through a recovery model of care, while reducing reliance on acute services, and facilitate transitions from ZSFG psychiatric inpatient, jails, or other institutions to the community. Our programs serve a diverse group of individuals, in terms of social, cultural, and linguistic characteristics; and is structured around interdisciplinary teams. Interventions provided include psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psychotropic medication management, case management, outreach, and employment services.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited University and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • 8 years of related work experience
    • 7 years of experience in a lead/supervisory role
    • Licensed BY the California Board of behavioral Sciences as LCSW, MFT or LPCC
    • Three years of post-master's experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
    • Experience working with severe mentally ill adults, homeless and dual diagnosis populations
    • Previous experience working with populations that are diverse in gender, sexual orientation and ethnicity
    • Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting
    • In-depth knowledge and applied background in clinical intervention strategies and treatment planning for patients with severe mental health conditions. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute care setting
    • In depth knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
    • Advanced ability to effectively lead subordinate managers and supervisors to achieve objectives, uphold professional standards and develop leadership ability
    • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and electronic medical records systems used in behavioral health clinics / clinical departments
    • Good oral, written, and telephone communication skills
    • Ability to apply policy knowledge to improve workflow and protocols
    • Excellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing behavioral care program / department including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal management
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster collaborative decision making and communication across multiple units and disciplines
    • Verbal and written communication skills to address critical, sensitive situations. Advanced active listening, persuasion and counseling skills
    • Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team, including on-site support services and property management staff
