    Hospice Chaplain - Casual / PRN


    Hospice Chaplain provides for the spiritual and emotional needs of hospice patients and their families, respectful of their cultural, spiritual and religious beliefs, within the framework of a professional, progressive model of chaplaincy.

    Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)


    • Master's degree in Theology, Religion, Spiritual Care or Spirituality, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Licensure / Certification: Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) strongly preferred via one of the following licensing groups: APC, CASC, NACC, and NAJC, which includes completion of a master's degree as required by one of the certifying agencies from a Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) academic institution with completion of 4 units (1600 hours) of ACPE accredited Spiritual Care education, and faith-based endorsement as recognized by one of the certifying agencies.
    • Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of Spiritual Care experience, including CPE training, is required. Chaplaincy or Spiritual Care ministry experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.
    • Current knowledge of the theological, medical-moral issues which supports the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church (i.e. Ethical and Religious Directives of Catholic Healthcare Facilities) and supports the mission of MCHS.
    • A basic understanding of health care organizations and procedures.
    • Ability to work autonomously and in a variety of team environments.
    • Proficient at multi-tasking and having a high level of problem solving skills.
    • Demonstrates resiliency with matters of death and dying.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality according to MCHS policy.
    • Criminal background check and fingerprinting completed as required by Ohio law
    Essential Responsibilities


    Provides spiritual care to Hospice patients/families at home or in-patient settings according to the Standards for Excellence in Spiritual Care established by the Trinity Health Care System, regulatory agencies and national competency standards for Hospice chaplains.

    Responds according to departmental procedures on all emergency and routine referrals for spiritual care services.

    Completes spiritual care according to national benchmark productivity standards.

    Assists patients and their loved ones with ethical decision making concerning

    advance directives of the State of Ohio.


    Assesses/reassesses spiritual needs of patient/family through Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) collaboration and during each visit or contact and consultation with clinical manager as needed.

    Develops spiritual plan of care, implementing a wholistic, patient-focused approach and documents plan after each visit.
