- Plan, conceptualize, design, and integrate various hybrid electric systems into truck chassis and other Alamo Group products
- Initiates, develops, documents, and implements testing processes and perform testing and validation of new designs
- Work in partnership with multiple business units to understand products' and collaborate on solutions
- Design rotor hub, housing, and mounts for 180kW engine mounted generator (ISG)
- Analyze the structure of drivetrain components
- Integrate generators and motors into vehicle drivelines
- Modify chassis and various structures to accommodate electrification
- Replace and redesign hydraulic systems to utilize electric motors where possible
- Position and mount electric drive components with respect to space claim, NVH, thermal and electrical criteria
- Design power distribution box
- The layout of cooling, battery pack, routing of high voltage wires
- Drive design choices to maximize safety and value to the company.
- Researches and continuously learns new technologies available with the goal of incorporating them into current and new product designs.
- Performs other duties/assignments as required.
- Rotating machine experience- designs using bearings, rotating shafts, gears, sideloads, thrust loads, vibrations, etc.
- Apply thorough knowledge of powertrain gearbox driveline design to drive innovation into Alamo Group business units' products
- Sheetmetal design - Machined parts - 3D printed- molded
- Ability to read, interpret and create blueprints, schematics, operator's manuals, and assembly instructions
- Ability to perform basic measurements using tape measure, protractor, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices
- Skilled and proficient with the use of personal computers; including JDE, and standard office software (i.e., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc.)
- Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar
- Familiar with High and Low voltage electric drive systems including motors, inverters, battery packs
- Knowledge and understanding of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) principles and EMI shielding
- Experience with high voltage EV connectors (Tyco, Amphenol etc.)
- Experience with Class 6-8 truck chassis design and modification
- Working knowledge with EPA truck emissions rules and changes
- Knowledge in steel manufacturing (fabrication and welding) equipment and processes with familiarity with MIG, TIG, and plasma cutters
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization.
- Strong planning and project management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities
- Demonstrated ability to provide timely, detailed, results-oriented products
- Able to work irregular and/or long hours that may include weekends and/or holidays as schedules dictate
- Able to travel independently by common air carrier and automobile
- Able to maintain an insurable driving record

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is preferred. Experience equivalent to a degree may be considered.
Minimum 5-8 years previous experience in a metal fabricating and/or complex mechanical assembly production environment required.
